Chris Capuano (elbow) is optimistic about his chances for earning a roster spot with the Brewers.
Capuano was signed to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training. He hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2007 due to multiple Tommy John surgeries, but made three appearances with Milwaukee's rookie league team last fall. With a normal offseason routine, he expects to enter camp without any limitations. "I know the major-league level is a lot different from rookie ball but I feel healthy, and I’m in as good a shape as I’ve ever been," said Capuano. "There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to compete for a major-league spot." Capuano was always a soft-tosser, but he was only reaching the 86-87 mph range in the instructional league. Increased velocity could come with time, but he'll have a hard time getting that past major league hitters. |
