Orioles signed infielder Garrett Atkins to a one-year contract.
Terms were not disclosed, but he is expected to earn a $4 million base salary with an additional $1 million in performance-based incentives. The contract also reportedly includes an $8.5 million club option for 2011. Atkins, 30, batted just .226/.308/.342 with nine home runs and 48 RBI with the Rockies last season, continuing a three-year tumble from his breakout campaign in 2006. It's possible that he will be Baltimore's cleanup hitter in 2010, even if his recent production doesn't warrant it.

The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Orioles have signed 3B Garrett Atkins to a one-year deal, salary unknown.
It's a good landing spot for Atkins, who will be handed the starting job and can work to rebuild his value. The 30-year old hig just .226 with nine home runs for the Rockies in 2009, but averaged 25 home runs the previous three seasons. In the span of one day, the Orioles have addressed their two biggest holes.

According to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick, recently non-tendered third baseman Garrett Atkins has received offers from at least three teams.
The three teams are not identified, though Crasnick suggests the Orioles, Twins, Mariners, Giants, and Rangers might be good fits. Atkins, 30, finished with a lousy .226/.308/.342 batting line in 2009 with nine home runs and 48 RBI but he's only one year removed from a 21-homer season.

According to the Denver Post, non-tendered third baseman Garrett Atkins is already drawing a good deal of attention.
Atkins, 30, hit a disappointing .226/.308/.342 in 2009 with nine home runs and 48 RBI but he is a .289/.354/.457 career hitter and is only two years removed from a 25-homer season. The Orioles, Twins and Giants are thought to have some interest in him as a third baseman or utilityman.
