 Eric Bruntlett-2B- PhilliesNov. 16 - 1:42 pm et
Eric Bruntlett has opted for free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Bruntlett, a 31-year-old utilityman, hit .171/.224/.238 with no home runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases in 110 plate appearances this season. The Phillies will now look to free agency to find a player that can more effectively spell middle infielders Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley. Philadelphia also removed RHP John Ennis, RHP Tyler Walker, C Paul Hoover and 1B Andy Tracy from the 40-man roster, granting each free agency.

Charlie Manuel is hoping to bring in a new backup infielder in the offseason.
Not good news for Eric Bruntlett. "I want something similar to who [Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley] are and someone that can probably contribute something similar to that," said Manuel. There will be no shortage of free agent options.

Eric Bruntlett turned an unassisted triple play in the bottom of the ninth inning of a 9-7 game to beat the Mets on Sunday.
The Phillies started the inning with two errors and a third near-error, the latter two of which were by Bruntlett himself. However, the Mets sent the runners on a 3-2 count and Jeff Francouer lined it right to Bruntlett as he was covering second base. He then stepped on second and tagged Daniel Murphy for the 14th unassisted triple play in baseball's regular season history and the first since Asdrubal Cabrera last season.
 Shane Victorino-OF - Phillies Jun. 4 - 10:38 pm et

Shane Victorino (sore hip) was out of the lineup Thursday.
Victorino left Wednesday's game with a sore left hip. The center fielder said it was a precautionary move. Right fielder Jayson Werth shifted to center while Eric Bruntlett started in right. Consider Victorino day-to-day.

 Eric Bruntlett-2B - Phillies Mar. 30 - 4:36 pm et

Eric Bruntlett went 3-for-4 with his second homer and four RBI against the Astros on Monday.
But he didn't attempt a steal, which qualifies as unusual. Bruntlett is 6-for-10 swiping bases this month, giving him just one fewer attempt that he had all of last season (a career-high 9-for-11). Bruntlett should occupy pretty much the same role this year that he did last year, so it's probably going to tough for him to steal more than 10 bases. If anything, he's due less playing time, since the Phillies won't be as quick to remove Raul Ibanez from games as they were with Pat Burrell.
