Reds manager Dusty Baker reiterated Monday that the Reds still have interest in re-signing free agent outfielder Laynce Nix.
Nix, 29, hit .239/.291/.476 this past season with a career-high 15 homers, 26 doubles and 46 RBI in 309 at-bats for the Reds. He may try to capitalize on the decent numbers and land a sure starting position. But if one's not out there, he can return and battle for playing time in Cincinnati.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said the Reds made an offer to Laynce Nix, however he opted to become a free agent.
"They still may take it," Jocketty said. "But they want to see what’s out there. We weren’t comfortable with what the arbitration figure would be. With Gomes, we wanted to keep some protection. I still thinks there’s a chance we’ll get something done with him." Nix, 29, hit .239/.291/.476 this past season with a career-high 15 homers, 26 doubles and 46 RBI in 309 at-bats with the Reds in 2009. It's clear the Reds prefer Gomes, so Nix will likely latch on with another club.

Laynce Nix slugged a grand slam in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday night.
Nix was just 1-for-18 (.056) with one home run and five RBI since returning from the disabled list on September 15. He is batting .239/.289/.475 with 15 homers and 46 RBI in 305 at-bats this season. The 15 homers are a new career-high, topping his previous career-high, set in 2004 as a member of the Rangers.

Reds activated outfielder Laynce Nix from the 15-day disabled list.
Nix has been sidelined since August 31 with a bulging disc in his neck. He'll bat seventh against Roy Oswalt in Tuesday's lineup. Nix is batting .251/.300/.484 with 13 home runs and 37 RBI in 283 at-bats this season.
