Padres agreed to terms with RHP Kevin Correia on a one-year, $3.6 million contract.

Expectations were that Correia would be traded after failing to get a deal done with the Padres earlier in the week. $3.6 million is likely more than he's worth, but he probably would have done at least as well on the open market. Even if he might have earned more in another deal, he's better off taking another year of Petco-influenced numbers into free agency next year.

Kevin Correia was told Tuesday that he will be non-tendered by Saturday.

Correia rejected all of the Padres' contract offers, and rightly so. He went 12-11 with a 3.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP this past season while earning just $750,000. He certainly deserves some sort of a raise and is sure to find it if (or when) he hits the free agent market. The Padres may try to find a trade partner for him in the next few days.

Kevin Correia indicated Tuesday that the Padres' offers to him have been low and he's likely to hit the free agent market.

The Padres have three days to tender a contract to Correia and might not be prepared to cover the salary jump he's anticipating. "They made an offer to me, but it was obviously below the arbitration value," said the right-hander. "I could still end up playing here. And this is where I want to play. The door is not closed." Correia went 12-11 with a 3.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP this past season while earning just $750,000. He could see close to $4 million through the arbitration process.

The Padres want SP Kevin Correia to sign at a discount, a source told FOXSports.com.

If the two sides cannot reach an agreement by Saturday, San Diego is likely to decline to offer him a contract. In that scenario, Correia would become an attractive non-tendered free agent. He was a bargain last year, producing a 12-11 record with a 3.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 198 innings while making $750,000. His salary is likely to jump to the $3-4 million range.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports expects an agreement between Kevin Correia and San Diego.

Correia had a fantastic year, going 12-11 with a 3.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 198 innings. His salary is due to jump to the $3-4 million range, but the San Diego native wants to stay with the club. Just a year away from free agency, a one-year deal is the likely bet.

Kevin Correia gave up five runs -- three earned -- over six-plus innings in a 7-2 loss to the Giants on Friday night.

Correia held the Giants to just one run over the first six innings, but unraveled in the seventh before being relieved by Ryan Webb. One of the more unheralded success stories in the majors this season, Correia finishes with a 12-11 record to go along with a 3.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. He deserves a sizable raise during the off-season, so it wouldn't be shocking if the Padres let him walk.
