 Carl Pavano-S- TwinsNov. 19 - 10:25 am et
Twins general manager Bill Smith is possibly interested in acquiring a veteran starting pitcher, reports Kelly Thesier of MLB.com.
"Ideally you'd love to have a veteran starter in there from day one," Smith told MLB.com. "We also think that the young pitchers that we have are all going to continue to get better as a group. If there is a fit with a veteran starting pitcher, we are very much open to that. Again, we've got depth but we would love to have a veteran guy that could come in and just calm things down once in a while." While the Twins have already expressed interest in bringing back Carl Pavano, they have also been connected to Jarrod Washburn, who has an offseason home in Wisconsin. Thesier doesn't rule out Rich Harden as a possibility, as the Twins put in a claim on him in August.

 Rich Harden-S - Cubs Nov. 12 - 7:00 pm et

Larry Stone of the Seattle Times believes the Mariners have interest in bringing Rich Harden back to the AL West this winter.
The 27-year-old Harden was 9-9 with a 4.09 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and impressive 10.91 K/9 this season with the Cubs. He was highly successful during his five-plus year tenure in Oakland and would probably feel comfortable with a return to the same division. The Mariners are looking to shore up their rotation depth behind ace Felix Hernandez and adding the right-handed Harden would be a step in the right direction.

According to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune, Rich Harden would be open to staying with the Cubs.
Sullivan writes that Harden's agent Arn Tellem is in Chicago and plans to talk to general manger Jim Hendry soon. The Cubs haven't shown much interest in retaining Harden, even after Ted Lilly underwent shoulder surgery last week. In 26 starts with the Cubs in 2009, The 27-year-old right-hander was 9-9 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. His 10.91 K/9 was the highest among pitchers with at least 140 innings pitched.

Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune doesn't expect Rich Harden back with the Cubs.
Harden has a well-documented injury history, but was able to make 27 starts in 2009, posting a 4.06 ERA. Being just 27 with tremendous talent, he's sure to receive a multiyear pact, which is scaring the Cubs off. While understandable, we're curious why Chicago appears to have zero interest in bringing back a high-upside starter during a tremendously thin free agent pitching market.

 Rich Harden-S - Cubs Sep. 24 - 9:44 pm et

Rich Harden has been shut down for the rest of the season.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella left the decision up to Harden, an impending free agent. "It'd be a lot different if we were in it and they needed me to pitch," he said. "I'd be out there in a second and I'd be fine. I'm still healthy, feeling good and took that as a positive for this season." He'll finish 9-9 with a 4.09 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 141 innings.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Rich Harden probably won't pitch again for the rest of the season.
Harden did some side work Wednesday and clearly didn't impress manager Lou Piniella. ''I'm not sure about Harden. I'm really not,'' said the skipper. ''I'm not certain on whether Rich is going to get another start or not.'' The right-hander hasn't started since September 16.
