Braves agreed to terms with outfielder Matt Diaz to a one-year, $2.55 million contract.
Diaz had a strong .313/.390/.488 line to end 2009, posting career highs of 13 home runs and 58 RBI. It's possible that will make him a full-timer to begin 2010, but the Braves will definitely want a left-handed-hitting backup around to serve as insurance.

 Matt Diaz-OF - Braves Oct. 3 - 3:53 pm et

Matt Diaz will miss the final two games of the Braves' season due to an infection in his right thumb.
Diaz was scratched on Friday after waking up with significant swelling in the thumb that morning, and further examination revealed that the issue was caused by a foreign body under his skin -- perhaps a shard of bat. He wraps up his season with a very strong .313/.390/.488 line.

Matt Diaz was scratched from Friday's lineup with a bruised right thumb.
Omar Infante is playing right field and batting seventh Friday evening against Washington right-hander Livan Hernandez. It's not clear if Diaz will be able to return before the end of the season.

 Nate McLouth-OF - Braves Sep. 4 - 5:47 pm et

Braves activated OF Nate McLouth from the 15-day disabled list.
Bobby Cox still hasn't penciled McLouth into tonight's starting lineup, though. McLouth had been nursing a strained hamstring and was handled with kid gloves by the Braves throughout his rehab, so don't expect him to get regular playing time from the get-go. Regardless, his return will be welcomed by the Braves, who are tied with the Marlins for third in the NL Wild Card race. Chances are Matt Diaz will see less playing time down the road.

Matt Diaz was 2-for-5 with a run scored in a win over the Marlins on Tuesday night.
After batting a ridiculous .404/.467/.681 with 38 hits in August, Diaz gets right back into the swing of things to start September. He could be a nice sleeper in mixed leagues down the stretch, but remember that most of his value will come against left-handed pitching.

Matt Diaz went 4-for-4 but missed hitting for the cycle by a home run against the Marlins on Sunday.
Diaz singled twice in addition to his double and triple. Unfortunately, Yunel Escobar grounded into a double play with Diaz on deck in the Braves' last at-bat of the game. On the bright side Diaz is red-hot while playing everyday, going 14-for-29 with three homers in his last nine games. With the Braves' outfield banged up he could be a sneaky play in deeper mixed leagues this week.
