| Rickie Weeks's 2009 Profile | | Weeks' power, plate discipline, and speed have lived up to the hype after the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 draft looked like a potential stud coming up through the minors, but his batting average, health, and defense have been another story. He's produced 16 homers, 25 steals, and 68 walks per 600 plate appearances, but that has come with a .245 batting average, a poor glove, and all sorts of health problems. Weeks' strong second half after the Brewers brought in Ray Durham to push him for playing time provides some reason for optimism heading into 2009 and he finally appears to over lingering wrist problems, but it's understandable if fantasy owners are gun shy at this point. If healthy, he's capable of hitting .260 with 15-20 homers, 20-25 steals, and a bunch of runs, which would make him an elite fantasy second baseman, but he simply can't be counted on as a top-10 option at the position.Updated Oct. 7: The Brewers expect Rickie Weeks to be their starting second baseman in 2010. "We view Rickie as our second baseman at this point," GM Doug Melvin said, implying that free agent Felipe Lopez likely won't be back with the team next season. Weeks got off to a tremendous start with nine homers in his first 147 at-bats, and the oft-injured infielder remains a high-risk, high-upside proposition for 2010. | | Year | Tm | AB | H | AVG | HR | RBI | RUNS | SB | OBP | SLUG | TB | OPS | | Proj | MLW | 490 | 128 | .261 | 17 | 51 | 93 | 23 | .370 | .435 | 213 | .805 | | 2008 | MLW | 475 | 111 | .234 | 14 | 46 | 89 | 19 | .342 | .398 | 189 | .740 | | 2007 | MLW | 409 | 96 | .235 | 16 | 36 | 87 | 25 | .374 | .433 | 177 | .807 | | 2006 | MLW | 359 | 100 | .279 | 8 | 34 | 73 | 19 | .363 | .404 | 145 | .766 |
