During a season-ending press conference at Miller Park, GM Doug Melvin named Rickie Weeks as the Brewers' starting second baseman in 2010.
"We view Rickie as our second baseman at this point," said Melvin. And they should, since Felipe Lopez is an impending free-agent and the Brewers have significant holes to fill in their rotation. During Friday's press conference, Melvin announced that he hopes to acquire two starting pitchers during the offseason. With that in mind, he hopes that resigning Trevor Hoffman will convince some free agent starters to come to Milwaukee.

 Rickie Weeks-2B - Brewers Oct. 7 - 5:15 pm et

The Brewers expect Rickie Weeks to be their starting second baseman in 2010.
"We view Rickie as our second baseman at this point," GM Doug Melvin said, implying that free agent Felipe Lopez likely won't be back with the team next season. Weeks got off to a tremendous start with nine homers in his first 147 at-bats, and the oft-injured infielder remains a high-risk, high-upside proposition for 2010.

Rickie Weeks (wrist) has conceded that he is finished for 2009.
"Pretty much, yeah," Weeks said. "They want me to come back next year. Of course, if something happens and we're still in it, I would love to come back and do something to help, but I don't think it's going to happen." If you were holding out the smallest shred of hope, it's time to squash it.

 Rickie Weeks-2B - Brewers Jun. 14 - 8:42 am et

Brewers transferred 2B Rickie Weeks to the 60-day disabled list.
Weeks underwent surgery on his left wrist in late May and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2009 season. Throwing him on the 60-day disabled list opens a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Chris Narveson.

Rickie Weeks underwent surgery on his left wrist Wednesday afternoon.
The procedure was deemed a success, but Weeks is still expected to miss the rest of the 2009 season. He'll wear a splint for the next two weeks and long cast for about two months after that. The surgery was performed by Phoenix-based specialist Dr. Don Sheridan.

 Rickie Weeks-2B - Brewers May. 19 - 2:53 pm et

Brewers placed second baseman Rickie Weeks on the 15-day disabled list with a torn left tendon in his left wrist.
Weeks will undergo season-ending surgery on his wrist by the end of the week. Craig Counsell will get the majority of starts at second base, but 24-year-old Hernan Iribarren could also get a few looks. It doesn't appear the second base position in Milwaukee will hold much fantasy value for the rest of the '09 season.
