Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports that there hasn't been much movement between the Reds and free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes this week.
"Nothing recently," said general manager Walt Jocketty. "We may re-evaluate where we're at with our roster and with the number of people we have going [to Spring Training]." The Reds reportedly offered Gomes a minor league contract last week, but he doesn't seem willing to bite at this time. If they decide to go with in-house options, they'll choose between a group that includes Chris Dickerson, Chris Heisey, Laynce Nix, Wladimir Balentien and Todd Frazier.

The Reds have offered free agent Jonny Gomes a minor league contract.
You'd have to think Gomes can do better. The 29-year-old is an awful outfielder, but he hit a respectable .267/.338/.541 with 20 home runs and 51 RBI in 281 at-bats last season. "I talked to (Gomes’) agent a little while ago," Reds GM Walt Jocketty said. "Hopefully, we can get something worked out."

 Marcus Thames-DH - Yankees Jan. 28 - 11:56 am et

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Yankees may look at Marcus Thames, Rocco Baldelli or Jonny Gomes if they can be had at a low salary.
Brian Cashman is smart enough to know that Randy Winn alone isn't the answer. Heyman adds that the Yankees once had Thames and liked him. Thames, originally drafted by the Yankees in 1996, batted .252/.323/.453 with 13 home runs in 258 at-bats last season. He's generally a pretty bad outfielder, but has an 845 career OPS against left-handed pitching. The Yankees could use an extra right-handed bat in the outfield.

Jonny Gomes told the Chicago Sun-Times Thursday that he would love to reunite with now-Cubs manager Lou Piniella.
The two worked together in Tampa Bay from 2003-2005. "What the Cubs have to offer, I’m totally OK with," Gomes said Thursday. "They’re asking for a fourth outfielder, and others are looking to start. I’m just looking to get in there. And I think it would be great to get back with Lou. I know how hard he is on young players and expects a lot, but we built a pretty good relationship in Tampa. ... I think it would be a good fit for both sides."

The Cubs are looking at free agent Jonny Gomes in their ongoing search for a fourth outfielder, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer.
Gomes, 29, hit a respectable .267/.338/.541 with 20 home runs and 51 RBI in 281 at-bats last season, but he's found very little interest on the open market this winter. The right-handed hitter would serve as a backup to Alfonso Soriano in left field and Kosuke Fukudome in right.

The Royals have "some interest" in free agent Jonny Gomes, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com.
Kansas City management is also kicking the tires on Marcus Thames in an effort to find a power-hitting DH and corner-outfield type of player. The club is clearly worried that Jose Guillen (hamstring) won't be able to stay healthy for the duration of the season. Gomes, 29, hit 267/.338/.541 with 20 home runs and 51 RBI in 281 at-bats last season while the 32-year-old Thames batted .252/.323/.453 with 13 homers and 36 RBI in 258 at-bats.
