Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer believes the Indians are looking for a right-handed first baseman that would allow Matt LaPorta to play the outfield against left-handers.
The first baseman would ride the bench a majority of the time, so the pickings will be slim. Hoynes notes the possibilities, including Kevin Millar, Aubrey Huff and former National Dmitri Young, who played for new manager Manny Acta in Washington. The club also has Triple-A Interleague batting champion Jordan Brown in Cleveland, although Brown is left-handed.

Grady Sizemore is near 100 percent rehabilitated from elbow and hernia surgery.
The center-fielder is working out at the Indians' spring complex and should have no restrictions entering spring training. Sizemore battled injuries all year, finishing with a .788 OPS, his worst in full-time play. His line plus the injuries will ensure he drops down draft boards for 2010: don't let him get past you.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Manny Acta is set to become the Indians' next manager.
He was handed a three-year contract with a club option for 2013. The Indians did their due diligence, hosting interviews with Angels bench coach Ron Roenicke, Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly and Bobby Valentine. But clearly they were most impressed by Acta, the former Nationals skipper. He has a 158-252 career managerial record and was also courted by the Astros.

Mike DiGiovanna of Los Angeles Times reports that the Indians have received permission to interview Angels bench coach Ron Roenicke about their managerial opening.
It's unclear when he will interview for the position, or if he has already been interviewed, since not all of the candidates names have been revealed. Roenicke, 52, has spent ten seasons on Mike Scioscia's staff -- six as the third base coach and the last four as bench coach. He joins Manny Acta, Bobby Valentine, Don Mattingly and Torey Lovullo under consideration for the position.

Bobby Valentine will have his second interview for the Indians' managerial vacancy on Thursday.
Former Nationals manager Manny Acta returned for a second interview on Tuesday. General manager Mark Shapiro still plans to interview Triple-A Columbus manager Torey Lovullo on Friday, and Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly, along with two other undisclosed candidates. Shapiro has expressed a desire to have a manager in place by the end of the World Series, but is willing to wait until the right candidate emerges.

Manny Acta returned to Progressive Field Tuesday for a second round of interviews with members of the Indians' front office.
Acta spent eight hours at the ballpark, chatting with owners Larry and Paul Dolan, general manager Mark Shapiro and others. The Indians also plan to bring Bobby Valentine back for a second interview and may have their eyes on Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly as well.
