The Rangers and RHP Frank Francisco avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3,265,000 contract.
Francisco requested $3.6 million from the Rangers and was offered $3 million when arbitration figures were exchanged, so he made a slight concession. Francisco will again serve as the Rangers' closer during the upcoming season, although he needs to find a way to stay off the disabled list. C.J. Wilson saved 14 games last year and will be breathing down his neck.

Frank Francisco requested $3.6 million from the Rangers and was offered $3 million when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
The two sides should eventually agree to a contract somewhere in the middle, thus avoiding an often-tumultuous arbitration hearing. Francisco will again serve as the Rangers' closer during the upcoming season. He showed real durability issues last year, though, and needs to find a way to stay healthy.

Frank Francisco was charged with four runs in a blown save Sunday against the Rays.
Francisco came in with the Rangers up 5-3 with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth. He struck out Gregg Zaun to end the frame, but he struggled in the ninth, giving up three singles and two walks before being replaced by Neftali Feliz. If manager Ron Washington hadn't played around in the first place and removed Darren O'Day and C.J. Wilson after two batters apiece, the Rangers likely would have had a better result today.

Frank Francisco gave up six runs on seven hits, blowing a save against the Red Sox on Friday night.
Wow. And to think, after Clay Buchholz was thrown out on a bizarre play at home, it looked like Francisco just might find a way to escape. It was not to be, as Francisco gave up a go-ahead two-run double to the very next batter Victor Martinez. A two-run homer by J.D. Drew finally chased him from the game. It's quite an oddity when you consider that he came into Friday's action with a .175 batting average against -- even more when you realize that he gave up more hits in Friday's loss than he had given up in any month this season.

Frank Francisco has reclaimed closing duties in Texas.
The Rangers opted to ease Francisco back into the responsibility after he spent a couple of weeks battling pneumonia. C.J. Wilson will resume a setup role. "Frankie is a one-inning guy and C.J. is a multiple innings guy," manager Ron Washington said Friday. "[Wilson] just gives us more versatility. He's done an outstanding job. He really has."

Frank Francisco pitched a scoreless eighth for another hold Thursday against the A's.
Francisco again set up in front of C.J. Wilson, who allowed one run in the ninth before picking up his 14th save. Francisco has pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings since coming of off the DL, and he seems ready to reclaim the closer's role if that's the way manager Ron Washington wants to play it.
