Tigers released catcher Matt Treanor.
Treanor had no hits and four strikeouts in 13 at-bats this season while battling a hip injury. Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said he may attempt to re-sign the 33-year-old this winter to serve as the team's No. 2 catcher in 2010.

Matt Treanor (hip) is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to the team.
Treanor underwent right hip surgery on Thursday. It was originally believed he could return in a few months, but the surgery appears to have been more extensive. He was 0-for-13 at the time of the injury. Dane Sardinha will continue to backup Gerald Laird.

Tigers placed catcher Matt Treanor on the 15-day disabled list with a hip injury.
Treanor will undergo surgery for the condition related to the sports hernia he suffered last year. It looks like he'll be sidelined until July.

The Detroit News reports that Matt Treanor will be out for at least two months due to a setback from surgery for a sports hernia in the offseason.
Treanor got off to a poor start this year, going 0-13 in backup duty. While he's out, the Tigers will turn to Dane Sardinha as their backup. Dusty Ryan could also see time in the majors.

The Toledo Blade reports that Dane Sardinha will be recalled from Triple-A to take the place of Matt Treanor once Treanor hits the disabled list.
Sardinha, 29, doesn't figure to see much action behind the plate. In five games at Toledo, he hit .231/.333/.308.

Matt Treanor could hit the disabled list soon due to a lingering hip injury.
"I think he's in some pain," manager Jim Leyland said of his backup catcher on Saturday. "We're discussing that. He's a gamer, but he's hurt." Treanor had sports hernia surgery in October and might not be fully healed. He's 0-for-13 with four strikeouts this season.
