Brewers signed C Matt Treanor to a minor league contract.
Treanor was limited to four games in 2009 due to a hip injury and underwent surgery in May. But he's already participating in winter ball and should be fine by the start of spring training. The 33-year-old has a .232/.318/.311 career batting line in 736 major league at-bats and will fight for the backup catching gig in Milwaukee.

Matt Treanor (hip) is almost ready to begin playing winter ball.
Treanor underwent surgery on his right hip in May and missed most of the 2009 season before being released from the Tigers in early November. He'll try to impress teams with his play in the Dominican Republic this winter and will likely seek a backup catching role for the 2010 season. The 33-year-old has a .232/.318/.311 career batting line in 736 major league at-bats.

Tigers released catcher Matt Treanor.
Treanor had no hits and four strikeouts in 13 at-bats this season while battling a hip injury. Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said he may attempt to re-sign the 33-year-old this winter to serve as the team's No. 2 catcher in 2010.

Matt Treanor (hip) is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to the team.
Treanor underwent right hip surgery on Thursday. It was originally believed he could return in a few months, but the surgery appears to have been more extensive. He was 0-for-13 at the time of the injury. Dane Sardinha will continue to backup Gerald Laird.

Tigers placed catcher Matt Treanor on the 15-day disabled list with a hip injury.
Treanor will undergo surgery for the condition related to the sports hernia he suffered last year. It looks like he'll be sidelined until July.

The Detroit News reports that Matt Treanor will be out for at least two months due to a setback from surgery for a sports hernia in the offseason.
Treanor got off to a poor start this year, going 0-13 in backup duty. While he's out, the Tigers will turn to Dane Sardinha as their backup. Dusty Ryan could also see time in the majors.
