Blue Jays signed outfielder Joey Gathright to a minor league contract.
Gathright, 28, played for both the Red Sox and Cubs in 2009, and hit .267/.313/.267 overall. He'll provide organizational depth for the Jays.

Joey Gathright refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket and is now a free agent.
Once a fairly promising prospect, Gathright is now at the Triple-A or fifth outfielder stage of his career. He'll land with a team that values his outstanding speed.

Red Sox sent infielder Nick Green, RHP Fernando Cabrera and OF Joey Gathright outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.
All three figure to become free agents. Green hit .236/.303/.366 in 276 at-bats while playing a much bigger role than expected for the Red Sox last season. He'll look for a utility job elsewhere.
 Rocco Baldelli-OF - Red Sox Oct. 8 - 1:26 pm et  

Rocco Baldelli (hip flexor strain) is not on Boston's ALDS roster.
It was thought Boston might carry Baldelli in the hopes he could recover in time for the Scott Kazmir/Joe Saunders combo in Games Three and Four, but it looks like the team determined he simply wouldn't be ready. Joey Gathright and Brian Anderson look to be the backup outfielders.

Rocco Baldelli (hip flexor strain) is not likely to be on Boston's ALDS roster.
Baldelli could have been a weapon off the bench against left-handed pitching, but his hip injury has been slow to heal. Joey Gathright and Brian Anderson both appear likely to make the roster as reserve outfielders.

J.D. Drew is out of the lineup Thursday with a shoulder injury.
It's not deemed serious, just sore. It may be enough to hold him out until the weekend. Boston obviously is being extra-cautious this close to the playoffs. Joey Gathright makes his third career start in right.
