 George Sherrill-R - Dodgers Aug. 26 - 8:23 pm et

George Sherrill was held out of Tuesday's game because he "felt a little catch in his side," Dodger manager Joe Torre told the media on Wednesday.
Sherrill apparently did not know when he hurt himself. An MRI was negative. According to trainer Stan Conte, Sherrill "threw hard today and is OK."

George Sherrill tossed a scoreless ninth inning Saturday against the Cubs to earn his first save as a member of the Dodgers.
Jonathan Broxton was curiously used in the eighth inning, with Sherrill being granted closing responsibilities in a 2-0 shutout of the Cubs. Broxton has struggled this season, but Dodgers manager Joe Torre has given no indication that a permanent switch is at hand. Stay tuned.
 Jonathan Broxton-R - Dodgers Aug. 22 - 9:09 am et

Jonathan Broxton admitted Friday that he's "a little worn down."
"We've played 120 games already," Broxton said. "You travel around. You pitch three nights in a row. You pitch four out of six days. It starts wearing on you." The Los Angeles closer has been dealing with a big toe injury since late June and has a 4.66 ERA through July and August. George Sherrill would get the save chances if Broxton is forced to the shelf for a few days, but it appears he will persevere and fight through the pain for now.

Dodgers acquired LHP George Sherrill from the Orioles for third baseman Josh Bell and RHP Steve Johnson.
As dominant as he is against left-handers, Sherrill should immediately become one of the NL's top setup men, and he's especially welcome on a Dodgers team that has overused Ramon Troncoso and the currently injured Ronald Belisario. Of course, his fantasy value is pretty much gone now. The Orioles haven't formally named a replacement for him in the closer's role, but Andy MacPhail indicated that Jim Johnson likely would get the first shot.

The Dodgers have acquired LHP George Sherrill from the Orioles in exchange for prospects 3B Josh Bell and RHP Steve Johnson, multiple news outlets are reporting.
Sherrill will work as a setup man in front of closer Jonathan Broxton, which kills the left-handers fantasy value in mixed leagues. Sherrill is enjoying a stellar campaign, producing a 2.40 ERA with 20 saves and a 39/13 K/BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings. Jim Johnson is the big winner in this trade from a fantasy prospective. Johnson (3.30 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 31/16 K/BB rate in 46 1/3 innings) is assumed to be the next closer in Baltimore, although the team could always go with a committee.
