 John Maine-S- MetsJan. 15 - 9:15 pm et
The Mets and RHP John Maine avoided arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.3 million contract.
Maine, who turns 29 in May, made just 15 starts last season due to shoulder problems, but will receive a $700,000 raise with a chance for $225,000 more in performance bonuses. He is 38-29 with a 4.01 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in four seasons with the Mets, but his command and strikeout rate have gone south since he went 15-10 with a 3.91 ERA in 2007. He's yet another question in New York's rotation entering 2010.

 John Maine-S - Mets Jan. 15 - 8:27 pm et

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that the Mets and right-hander John Maine have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.
No word on the terms of the new deal, but Maine made $2.6 million in '09. Limited to just 15 starts last season due to shoulder problems, Maine was 7-6 with a 4.43 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. The Mets are hoping he can return to his 15-game winner form from 2007.

John Maine began offseason workouts last month and feels his throwing shoulder is finally back to full strength.
Maine was limited to just 15 starts in 2009 and also missed starts in 2008. He went 15-10 with a 3.91 ERA back in 2007, his last fully healthy season, and expects to reach that kind of success this year. "I'll be ready," the right-hander told MLB.com. "That's the bottom line."

 Corey Hart-OF - Brewers Dec. 8 - 3:25 am et

According to Joel Sherman, the Mets and Brewers have discussed a trade involving John Maine and Corey Hart.
It'd seem to be easier for the Mets to buy a Hart-type outfielder in free agency than to replace Maine's upside in the rotation, but they likely have some concerns about how Maine's shoulder will respond going forward. If the Brewers made the deal, they'd enter the market for a right fielder. Marlon Byrd might move to the top of their list.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes that he has heard the Mets will "definitely" tender a contract to right-hander John Maine.
As they should. Limited to just 15 starts in 2009 due to shoulder problems, Maine was 7-6 with a 4.43 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, but finished his season on a positive note. Though he's a question mark, the Mets will bank on the upside of the 28-year-old right-hander rather than set him loose in December.

 John Maine-S - Mets Oct. 2 - 9:56 pm et

John Maine hurled seven innings of one-run ball in a 7-1 win over the Astros on Friday night.
A nice way to go out. Maine held the Astros to just five hits while fanning seven and walking none. It was his longest start of the season and the first time he hasn't walked a batter in a game since last June 15. Limited to just 15 starts due to shoulder problems, Maine wraps up his season at 7-6 with a 4.43 ERA. Given the uncertainty in the rotation, the Mets should tender him a contract for next season.
