Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that there haven't been any new discussions between the Diamondbacks and the Mets regarding catcher Chris Snyder.
Bengie Molina took a lesser offer to return to San Francisco, leaving the Mets with the internal options of Omir Santos, Henry Blanco and possibly Josh Thole. There's no question that the 28-year-old Snyder is available -- currently rehabbing from back surgery, he's the clear backup to Miguel Montero and is owed $10.5 million over the next two seasons -- but it's unclear who they would want in return or if they would be willing to eat any of the contract.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes that the Mets have interest in Diamondbacks' catcher Chris Snyder.
Sherman notes that the Mets tried to dangle second baseman Luis Castillo in a swap of undesirable contracts, but the Diamondbacks were not receptive to the offer. Still, the Mets remain interested in the 28-year-old catcher. Snyder batted .200/.333/.352 in 2009, but is just one season removed from slugging 16 home runs. He is currently rehabbing from back surgery. The Mets would like to add a more potent option behind the plate if they are unable to land Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. According to Sherman, the Mets are also considering Bengie Molina.

Chris Snyder said Sunday this his rehab from back surgery is going well.
The Blue Jays were in trade talks with the D'Backs for Snyder but called off discussions after meeting with the 28-year-old catcher. He's not sure why. "I'm right where I need to be," Snyder said. "There has not been a setback, there has not been anything freak happen." The Diamondbacks are still hoping to ship him to another team this winter.

According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Blue Jays have called off trade talks involving catcher Chris Snyder.
The Jays and D'Backs were reportedly discussing a Lyle Overbay-for-Chris Snyder swap, but concerns about Snyder's back led Toronto to nix the talks Sunday afternoon. It wasn't a great fit anyway because of the $11.25 million remaining on the backstop's current contract.

According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays are "making progress" on a trade that would send Chris Snyder to Toronto and Lyle Overbay to Arizona.
This corroborates an earlier report by Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Snyder has become expendable with Miguel Montero's solid season and Overbay would provide some veteran stewardship of first base while Brandon Allen hones his skills at Triple-A Reno. Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said he plans to be more active with trades than free agency, and Snyder would certainly fit that bill. Snyder, 28, is younger than impending free agent Rod Barajas, with a better defensive reputation behind the plate.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks are discussing a trade that would send catcher Chris Snyder to the Blue Jays for first baseman Lyle Overbay.
Snyder, 28, has two years and $11.25 million left on his contract while Overbay, 31, has one year and $7 million left on his. Piecoro speculates that the Diamondbacks might want to give top-prospect Brandon Allen some more seasoning at Triple-A Reno. With a solid glove, Overbay would stabilize a position where first base options combined to hit just .229/.321/.398 last season. If no money is exchanged, the Diamondbacks would save $4.25 million over two years. It's hard to believe the Blue Jays like Snyder that much.
