 Jeff Keppinger-3B - Astros Sep. 16 - 10:20 pm et

Jeff Keppinger was 3-for-4 with two home runs in a loss to the Reds on Wednesday night.
The Astros actually had five home runs on the night, but unfortunately all of them were solo shots. The two homers were Keppinger's first extra-base hits of the month. He is batting .265/.333/.411 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 275 at-bats this season.

Jeff Keppinger returned to action on Saturday and went 0-for-3 against the Pirates.
Keppinger hadn't played in eight days because of a sore back.

Jeff Keppinger was scratched from Thursday's lineup after feeling discomfort in his back during pregame warm-ups.
It's the fifth game Keppinger has missed in a row. "I didn't think it would take this long," he said. "I thought maybe it would be two days, but we have a lot of guys here now. So instead of trying to push it and get out there it's better to take an extra day." Chris Johnson continues to benefit from the absence of Keppinger and Geoff Blum, who is out with a shin contusion.

Jeff Keppinger (back) was available to pinch hit Wednesday.
Keppinger had missed four consecutive games with lower back discomfort. He visited a chiropractor Tuesday and was able to take infield practice during Wednesday's warmup festivities. "He looked fine," said manager Cecil Cooper. "It looked like he might be ready to get back out there. I'll probably be still a little careful with him." The 29-year-old is hitting .259 this season.

 Chris Johnson-3B - Astros Sep. 9 - 1:54 pm et

Manager Cecil Cooper has informed veterans Geoff Blum and Jeff Keppinger of his plans to give playing time to Chris Johnson down the stretch.
With the addition of another name to the 3B mix in Houston, this situation is one to avoid outside of deeper NL-only leagues. The 24-year-old Johnson hit .281 with 13 homers and 42 RBI at Triple-A this season and has a chance to open 2010 as a regular.
