The Astros and third baseman Jeff Keppinger avoided arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.15 million contract.
He was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. Keppinger, who turns 30 in April, batted .256/.320/.387 with seven home runs and 29 RBI in 305 at-bats with the Astros last season, numbers slightly below his career averages. With Pedro Feliz signed to play third base, Keppinger will return to a backup infielder role this season. |
