Padres signed utilityman Russ Adams to a minor league contract and sent him to Triple-A Portland.
Adams, 28, had a .319/.363/.514 line in the minors, but went just 4-for-20 upon his promotion, prompting his release from the Blue Jays. The former first-rounder will attempt to resurrect his career in San Diego. He should be in the bigs before long as the club needs middle infielders.

Blue Jays designated utilityman Russ Adams for assignment.
Adams, the Jays' first-round pick in 2002, had a .319/.363/.514 batting line on the Triple-A level this season, prompting his promotion. Once in the spotlight, however, the 28-year-old went just 4-for-20 (.200) with no extra-base hits, no home runs and no RBI.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of utilityman Russ Adams.
Adams failed to make the club out of spring training, but redeemed himself with a .319/.363/.514 batting line on the Triple-A level. He doesn't bring much power to the table, but should do a better job of getting on base than Joe Inglett.
 Jason Lane-OF - Blue Jays Mar. 29 - 4:13 pm et

Blue Jays reassigned OF Jason Lane, INF/OF Russ Adams, INF Brad Emaus, INF Scott Campbell and RHP Dirk Hayhurst to minor league camp; optioned RHP Brian Wolfe to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Lane and Emaus were the Jays' home run and RBI leaders this spring, with Lane hitting .358 with five homers and Emaus batting .3333 with four homers and 13 RBI. Still, Emaus was never a candidate to make the team and the Jays decided against going with Lane over Kevin Millar. Maybe someone else will step up and grab Lane before the season starts.
 Russ Adams-OF - Mets Mar. 14 - 4:38 pm et

Russ Adams returned to action on Saturday and went 0-for-1 with a walk and a HBP.
Adams missed three days due to a mild left quad strain. He's not a candidate to break camp with the Blue Jays.
