General manager Dave Dombrowski said the Tigers aren't looking to add a designated hitter.
This would seem to eliminate Detroit as a potential destination for veteran slugger Jim Thome. It doesn't mean Dombrowski hasn't dismissed adding another hitter, but the designated hitter spot figures to be shared by Carlos Guillen and Magglio Ordonez when they are not being used in the outfield or Ryan Raburn, among others. Raburn, who turns 29 in April, batted .291 with 16 home runs, 45 RBI and an 891 OPS in 261 at-bats last season. Source: MLBlogs.com
