Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the Phillies have signed catcher Carlos Ruiz to a three-year, $9 million contract.
Arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, he asked for $2.5 million on Tuesday, but the Phillies followed a similar path to that of Joe Blanton and Shane Victorino by locking up Ruiz through his arbitration years. Ruiz, who turned 31 on Friday, batted .255/.355/.425 with nine home runs and 43 RBI with the Phillies last season, emerging as an everyday catcher. "Chooch" was one of the most potent bats during the postseason, batting .341 with two homers and nine RBI. Source: CSNPhilly.com
