Phillies signed C Carlos Ruiz to a three-year, $8.85 million contract with a $5 million option for 2013.
The move successfully buys out his arbitration years. With a $500,000 buyout on the fourth year, he'll receive at least $9 million guaranteed. He has a chance to earn more with performance incentives based on games played. "Chooch" batted .255/.355/.425 last season, establishing a new career-high with nine home runs while driving in 43 runs. The 31-year-old backstop made real strides at the plate last season, and played a huge part in another run at the World Series. He'll be the everyday catcher moving forward.

According to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com, Carlos Ruiz will receive a three-year, $8.85 million contract from the Phillies.
The contract includes a $5 million club option for a fourth year along with a $500,000 buyout and performance incentives based on games started. With Ruiz in tow, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr has taken care of all of his arbitration-eligible players -- Chad Durbin was signed to a one-year deal while outfielder Shane Victorino and right-hander Joe Blanton also signed three-year contracts.

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the Phillies have signed catcher Carlos Ruiz to a three-year, $9 million contract.
Arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, he asked for $2.5 million on Tuesday, but the Phillies followed a similar path to that of Joe Blanton and Shane Victorino by locking up Ruiz through his arbitration years. Ruiz, who turned 31 on Friday, batted .255/.355/.425 with nine home runs and 43 RBI with the Phillies last season, emerging as an everyday catcher. "Chooch" was one of the most potent bats during the postseason, batting .341 with two homers and nine RBI.

The Phillies are talking with CF Shane Victorino, RHP Joe Blanton and catcher Carlos Ruiz about multi-year contracts.
Victorino is entering his second year of arbitration eligibility, having requested $5.8 million with the Phillies countering at $4.75 million. The 29-year old is deserving of a nice raise and should come to a quick accord with the Phillies. Blanton is tricker, as he's asked for $10.25 million with Philadelphia at $7.5 million in his final year of arbitration. Ruiz is in just his first year of arbitration eligibility.

Carlos Ruiz asked for $2.5 million and was offered $1.7 million from the Phillies when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
Ruiz was paid the league minimum last season and compiled a .780 OPS with nine home runs. He will serve as the Phillies' starting catcher in 2010 and stands to earn a nice raise through the arbitration process.
