The Royals and 3B Alex Gordon avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.15 million contract.
The second pick in the 2005 amateur draft underwent hip surgery last year and produced meager production when healthy -- .232 with six home runs and 22 RBIs in 49 games. Despite acquiring Josh Fields from the White Sox earlier this offseason, the Royals are committed to Gordon at third base. He is a sleeper candidate this coming season.

 Alex Gordon-3B - Royals Nov. 11 - 2:57 pm et

A source tells FOXSports.com that the Royals are committed to Alex Gordon at third base.
As they should be. The Royals recently acquired another former first-round pick in the form of Josh Fields from the White Sox, but since he is known as a butcher in the field, the Royals view him as a potential left-fielder should they find a promising offer for David DeJesus.

 Alex Gordon-3B - Royals Oct. 3 - 9:15 pm et

Alex Gordon has an extensive workout schedule planned for the offseason and is hoping to come back strong in 2010.
With one game to play in the 2009 season, the 25-year-old Gordon is batting just .231/.326/.363 with five homers and 21 RBI over 160 at-bats. "I want to strengthen my hips, strengthen my shoulders — anything to get healthy and in shape," he said Saturday. "I’ll be busy this winter."

 Mark Teahen-3B - White Sox Sep. 13 - 12:39 am et

Mark Teahen was scratched from Saturday's lineup with back spasms.
Teahen felt the discomfort during batting practice, but apparently felt fine in the clubhouse after the game. He should return to action Sunday. Alex Gordon drew the start at third base for Saturday's loss.

Alex Gordon homered and walked Thursday to help the Royals beat the Tigers 7-4 and complete a three-game sweep.
The Tigers collected 15 hits and three walks, but they grounded into four double plays and lined into another to doom their chances. Gordon has two extra-base hits and two walks in two games since returning from exile. He has three homers in his last 10 starts for the Royals.
