 Wandy Rodriguez-S - Astros Jan. 22 - 1:47 pm et

According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, the Astros "are said to be unwilling to do multi-year deals with any of their arbitration-eligible" players.
That includes Wandy Rodriguez, Hunter Pence and Tim Byrdak. The Astros are facing a bit of a budget crunch these days, the result of being locked into too many veteran contracts. Perhaps things will be different for owner Drayton McLane and Co. by the time Rodriguez and Pence have the option of exploring free agency. Both would be hot commodities on the open market.

Hunter Pence asked for $4.1 million and was offered $3.1 million from the Astros when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
Pence, who turns 27 in April, posted a .818 OPS last season while smacking 25 home runs, 26 doubles, 14 stolen bases and 72 RBI. He has flirted with brilliance in the past, especially during his rookie campaign, but it's safe to say he has not yet reached his full potential.

Hunter Pence delivered a two-run homer and an RBI double in the Astros' 4-3 win over the Phillies on Monday.
Pence drove in the team's first three runs and then scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on Michael Bourn's bases-loaded walk. He finished the four-game sweep of the Phillies with three homers and eight RBI.

Hunter Pence supplied a two-run homer and an RBI single in Saturday's win over the Phillies.
Pence's average has dipped, but he does have eight homers in his last 21 starts. That his RBI numbers remain so mediocre is largely a function of his spot in the batting order. Right now he's hitting sixth behind a guy, Miguel Tejada, who is getting on base 27 percent of the time since the All-Star break.

Hunter Pence was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in a win over the Phillies on Friday night.
His third-inning two-run blast closed the book on starter Cliff Lee. Pence at least has a modest seven-game hitting streak going, but the difference in his production over the second half has been stark -- .256 with 10 homers and 24 RBI -- opposed to .298 with 11 homers and 37 RBI in the first half.
