Mets signed IF Luis Hernandez to a minor league contract.
He'll also receive an invite to Spring Training. Hernandez, 25, was designated for assignment by the Royals last month after batting .205 in 73 at-bats last season. Hernandez will continue to find opportunity because of his glove, but there's nothing in his profile that suggests he can contribute with the bat, leaving him as a fringy major leaguer.

Royals designated SS Luis Hernandez for assignment.
Hernandez, the former Oriole, has proven that he simply can't hit at the major league level. With 243 career plate appearances, the 25 year old is at .244/.284/.276. His solid defense assures him of a career -- always in demand to play in Triple-A with several promotions due to injury or attrition.

Royals purchased the contract of INF Luis Hernandez from Triple-A Omaha.
Hernandez was designated for assignment in early July to clear roster room for Ryan Freel. If that isn't enough of an insult and enough of a reason to steer clear from the guy in fantasy leagues, his .204/.235/.204 batting line with no extra-base hits over 49 at-bats should do the trick.

Royals designated infielder Luis Hernandez for assignment.
He gets the boot to make room for the recently acquired Ryan Freel. Hernandez, a switch-hitter, hit .204/.235/.204 with no extra-base hits and just two RBI in 49 at-bats for the Royals.

Manager Trey Hillman indicated Tuesday that Luis Hernandez will be worked into the shortstop mix with Mike Aviles out.
The slick-fielding Hernandez is starting against the Mariners Tuesday night, but he's not going to hit enough to be a fantasy option.

Royals purchased the contract of infielder Luis Hernandez from Triple-A Omaha.
Hernandez replaces Tony Pena Jr. and is similarly a candidate for worst player on a major league roster. He was hitting .292/.325/.333 in 72 at-bats for Omaha, which is a huge step up from his .185/.216/.220 line in 205 at-bats for Norfolk last season. He does have a nice defensive reputation, but his play has never quite matched it. He'll take over Pena's very limited role.
