 Joba Chamberlain-S- YankeesFeb. 10 - 8:53 am et
The Yankees plan to use Joba Chamberlain more liberally this season, no matter what role he serves for the club.
We may finally bare witness to the end of the "Joba Rules" in the Bronx. "He's just going to go out and pitch and he'll be the one who'll dictate when he comes out as far as getting hit or getting tired or losing his stuff," pitching coach Dave Eiland said Tuesday. Chamberlain is set to battle for a rotation spot this spring with fellow right-hander Phil Hughes.

 Phil Hughes-R - Yankees Nov. 19 - 2:37 pm et

According to FOXSports.com, the Yankees' offseason plan is unclear.
Relying on a three-man rotation throughout the playoffs, the Yankees could look to make the big splash by signing John Lackey or trading for Roy Halladay. However, they could also fortify the bullpen, inserting Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes back in the rotation. To that end, according to a rival executive, the Yankees plan to pursue relievers Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez. Still, another source suggests that the Yankees prefer to address any bullpen holes from within. Whatever plan the World Champions may have, it's being kept under wraps.

 Mariano Rivera-R - Yankees Oct. 31 - 5:13 pm et

Manager Joe Girardi hopes to avoid using Mariano Rivera for multiple innings on Saturday.
Girardi said "two innings tonight is probably out of the question," but given the state of Phil Hughes (9.64 ERA during the postseason), we'll believe it when we see it. Rivera has notched two-inning saves in each of his last two appearances.

Phil Hughes has a 9.64 ERA over seven appearances during the postseason.
The Yankees went to Hughes in the eighth inning of Game 1 on Wednesday night and he quickly walked Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino to start the frame. Both runs eventually came around to score, putting the game out of reach. "It's his first World Series game," pitching coach Dave Eiland said. "Hopefully he got the jitters out." Though Eiland expressed confidence in Hughes, New York's bridge to Mariano Rivera is on shaky ground.

Pitching coach Dave Eiland expressed confidence in Phil Hughes during a Friday workout, while acknowledging that his mechanics have failed him of late.
"It’s just a minor adjustment and he knows it," said Eiland. "It’s just staying within yourself and not trying to make that good stuff you have even better. If you do that you get a little jumpy in your delivery and it affects your command. That’s what’s happened." Hughes has a 5.79 ERA in six postseason appearances after posting a 3.03 ERA during the regular season. He took the loss against the Angels in Game 5.

Phil Hughes notched a four-out save against the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.
Joe Girardi certainly trusts him, as this was the second time this week that Hughes has been asked to get four outs. He answered the call again on Saturday, striking out three of the four batters he faced. He lowered his ERA to 1.11 in 32 appearances as a reliever. Look for the Yankees to get Mariano Rivera back on Sunday, but Hughes has proved himself able to the task.
