Joe Torre is in discussions to manage the Dodgers beyond 2010, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
"I had some discussion about possibly extending another year, but that's still discussion now," said Torre at a charity event on Friday night in New York. "In fact, I talked to Ned [Colletti, general manager] today. I just told him I wanted a couple of weeks to think more about it." Next season is the final year of Torre's three-year contract with the Dodgers.

Joe Torre may remain as Dodgers manager past 2010.
It was widely thought that Torre would retire after 2010, but the manager is currently engaged in discussions to remain on staff longer. "The last two years have been invigorating. You see progress and your ego tells you maybe you had something to do with it," Torre told the L.A. Times. Don Mattingly's quest to become a manager just keeps getting harder.

Matt Kemp homered and scored two runs in Monday's NLCS Game 4 loss.
Kemp scored on a James Loney single in the fourth inning and his solo jack in the top of the fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie. He's batting a disappointing .205 this postseason, but does have two home runs.

Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning Wednesday to help the Dodgers beat the Cardinals 5-3 in Game 1 of the NLDS.
The Cardinals seemed poised to take control after an intentional walk to Albert Pujols loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first. Randy Wolf limited the team to just one run, though, and Kemp saw that the lead lasted no time at all when he followed a Rafael Furcal single with a homer in the bottom of the first. The game ended up featuring 21 hits, 11 walks and 3 HBPs. The teams set a postseason record by leaving 30 men on base in a nine-inning game.

Matt Kemp went 0-for-4 on Friday to drop his average below .300 for the first time since May 29.
Kemp, who received a two-day break before starting tonight, is hitting .232/.270/.384 in 112 at-bats since the beginning of September. It'd help a lot if he could snap out of the funk before the postseason starts.
