The Royals and RHP Robinson Tejeda avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $950,000 million contract.
Tejeda can earn another $50,000 in performance bonuses. He went 4-2 with a 3.54 ERA in 35 games last season and posted a 2.84 ERA in six September starts (five of those starts were against contenders). His poor command makes him an iffy bet going forward, but Tejeda has a decent shot to crack Kansas City's 2010 rotation.

 Robinson Tejeda-S - Royals Sep. 30 - 10:43 pm et

Robinson Tejeda pitched five innings and allowed three runs Wednesday in a no-decision against the Yankees.
Derek Jeter and Nick Swisher homered to account for the runs. Despite struggling a bit in his final two outings. Tejeda posted a 2.84 ERA in his six starts after rejoining the rotation. Making that even more impressive is that five of the outings were against contenders. His poor command makes him an iffy bet going forward, but he's guaranteed his continued employment in 2010. A month ago, he looked like a candidate to be non-tendered.

Robinson Tejeda was chased for six runs -- five earned -- over 4 1/3 innings in a 9-4 loss to the Twins on Friday night.
This is a streamer's worst nightmare. Just when it started to look safe to start him in mixed leagues, but his poor command resurfaces. He allowed just two hits -- Michael Cuddyer ended an his incredible 0-for-43 hitless string against right-handers with a solo homer in the fourth. But the real problem was the seven walks and a run-scoring wild pitch in the third. His ERA jumped from 2.94 to 3.41 in the loss.

Robinson Tejeda limited the White Sox to one run in six innings to earn a win on Sunday.
Tejeda was reportedly bothered by a blister in his last start, but it wasn't apparent today as he struck out five and walked two. Tejeda is now 3-0 while allowing just two runs and posting a 24/10 K/BB in four starts since joining the rotation. He shouldn't be unowned in AL-only leagues while pitching so well, and those in mixed leagues can take a chance on him too.

Robinson Tejeda has a blister on his middle finger that is hurting the effectiveness of his changeup.
Tejeda had his 23 2/3 scoreless inning streak snapped Tuesday night against the Tigers. "He was babying the changeup a little bit (Tuesday) from the third inning on," manager Trey Hillman said. "We’d never seen him back off on arm speed. It is a concern, but it’s only a concern if it lingers into the next start." He's scheduled to take the hill Sunday against the White Sox.

Robinson Tejeda allowed one run over five innings in a 11-1 win over the Tigers on Tuesday night.
And so, Tejeda's improbable scoreless streak comes to an end at 23 2/3 innings. Still, it was yet another impressive start, as he limited the Tigers to just two hits while walking four and fanning five. Tejeda has allowed just one run over his last three starts while putting up a 19/8 K/BB ratio. The Royals have nothing to lose by continuing to throw the 27-year-old out there. He'll face the White Sox next.
