Tigers acquired RHP Max Scherzer, LHPs Daniel Schlereth and Phil Coke and OF Austin Jackson; Diamondbacks acquired RHPs Ian Kennedy and Edwin Jackson; Yankees acquired OF Curtis Granderson.
The Tigers did really well here, but Scherzer might have the most upside of any player in this deal. The 25-year-old right-hander is 9-15 with a 3.86 ERA over his 46 games (37 starts) in the majors and it's awful hard not to be impressed by his career strikeout rate of 9.5 K/9. There are whispers about his durability and it's probably justified given some past shoulder issues, but the Diamondbacks will probably regret giving up on him. Scherzer should immediately slot in as Detroit's No. 3 starter in 2010. |
