 Max Scherzer-S- TigersDec. 9 - 5:12 pm et
Tigers acquired RHP Max Scherzer, LHPs Daniel Schlereth and Phil Coke and OF Austin Jackson; Diamondbacks acquired RHPs Ian Kennedy and Edwin Jackson; Yankees acquired OF Curtis Granderson.
The Tigers did really well here, but Scherzer might have the most upside of any player in this deal. The 25-year-old right-hander is 9-15 with a 3.86 ERA over his 46 games (37 starts) in the majors and it's awful hard not to be impressed by his career strikeout rate of 9.5 K/9. There are whispers about his durability and it's probably justified given some past shoulder issues, but the Diamondbacks will probably regret giving up on him. Scherzer should immediately slot in as Detroit's No. 3 starter in 2010.

 Edwin Jackson-S - Diamondbacks Dec. 7 - 11:02 pm et

According to FOXSports.com, the Yankees, Diamondbacks and Tigers have discussed a blockbuster trade at this week's winter meetings.
Ken Rosenthal says "talks are at an impasse," but here's the breakdown: The Yankees would receive Curtis Granderson from the Tigers and two prospects from the D'Backs. The Tigers would get Max Scherzer from the Diamondbacks, with center fielder Austin Jackson and left-handed relievers Phil Coke and Michael Dunn also coming over from the Yankees. Arizona would get Edwin Jackson from the Tigers and Ian Kennedy from the Yanks. The deal is reportedly being "pushed by the Diamondbacks."

 Edwin Jackson-S - Diamondbacks Dec. 7 - 9:29 pm et

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic has heard that the Diamondbacks may be willing to part with Max Scherzer for Tigers right-hander Edwin Jackson.
It's doubtful this would work as a straight-up deal. Scherzer was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2006 draft and posted a 4.12 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 9.19 K/9 this past season as a 25-year-old. He's just as talented as Jackson, if not more, and will make the league minimum for the next two years.

 Max Scherzer-S - Tigers Sep. 26 - 12:55 am et

In his final start of the season, Max Scherzer gave up three runs over five innings in a 4-0 loss to the Padres on Friday night.
Scherzer finishes the year with a 9-11 record to go along with a 4.12 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. He was victimized by his control yet again, as walks led to runs in the fourth and fifth innings of Friday's contest. On the bright side, Scherzer struck out six in the loss. He finishes the year with 174 in 170 1/3 innings. Scherzer is likely to be undervalued in drafts next season. Take advantage of it.

Max Scherzer was denied a win Sunday after allowing one run and three hits in six innings against the Brewers.
Scherzer left with a two-run lead, but that was blown right away by Daniel Schlereth. He remains 9-9 with a 4.05 ERA in 28 starts. The Diamondbacks surely would like to see him get that 10th win before shutting him down, but it's possible they'll end his season now anyway.
 Max Scherzer-S - Tigers Sep. 4 - 9:09 am et

Max Scherzer will make just a couple more starts before the Diamondbacks shut him down for the rest of the season.
Scherzer is up to 147 innings on the year. "When we get to that 170-175 (innings) threshold, we'll have a decision to make," manager A.J. Hinch said Thursday. "That should take him right into that last week of the season." He has a 4.97 ERA in nine starts since the All-Star break and a 4.10 mark overall.
