Colby Rasmus expects to improve against left-handed pitchers this year.
Rasmus, 23, went 17-for-106 (.160) against left-handers last season with just four extra-base hits and 10 RBI. "When I was up there hitting against them, I didn’t feel over-matched or anything," the center fielder said Thursday. "I just didn’t come down with some hits. This year, (I need to) just get up there and relax and don’t try to do too much with one at-bat. ... I had never really struggled against lefties a whole lot in the minor leagues."

 Ryan Ludwick-OF - Cardinals Oct. 10 - 3:10 pm et

Ryan Ludwick will bat second for Saturday's Game 3 against the Dodgers.
The Dodgers have had no interest in pitching to Albert Pujols, so this move bookends him with more potent bats. Ludwick is 3-for-8 with an RBI in the series while Pujols is 1-for-6 with three walks. Colby Rasmus, who is 3-for-6 with two doubles and an RBI in the series, will bat fifth. Matt Holliday remains in his familiar cleanup spot.

 Rick Ankiel-OF - Royals Sep. 30 - 4:26 pm et

Rick Ankiel is out of the starting lineup for the fourth time in five games on Wednesday.
Manager Tony La Russa says that Ankiel's shoulder isn't a problem and points to the fact that Colby Rasmus is having better at-bats as the reason that Ankiel is benched. Either way, Ankiel belongs on the bench in NL-only leagues and could even be droppable if there's an alternative.

 Colby Rasmus-OF - Cardinals Sep. 22 - 11:46 pm et

Colby Rasmus was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored in a win over the Astros on Tuesday night.
They were his first RBI in over a week. With the solid night, Rasmus is batting .272 with two home runs and seven RBI in 62 at-bats this month. Though he is generally a liability against lefties, Rasmus homered against Tim Byrdak in the seventh. It was just his third home run against a southpaw this season.

Colby Rasmus returned to the Cardinals' starting lineup Wednesday.
Rasmus was unable to start Tuesday due to lingering soreness in his left heel, but appeared as a late-innings pinch-hitter. He's batting second and playing center field Wednesday against the Brewers' Jeff Suppan.

Colby Rasmus was held out of Tuesday's lineup with a sore left heel.
Rasmus might not return before the weekend. He's been dealing with the injury for much of the season, but it expanded Tuesday. "It's in my heel," said the rookie, "but like, right up above my heel, under my Achilles." Rick Ankiel will draw all of the starts in center field while Rasmus is out.
