Mets acquired second baseman Anderson Hernandez from the Nationals for second baseman Greg Veloz.
With Alberto Gonzalez in tow, Hernandez had no future in Washington and was quickly losing playing time. He'll find at-bats in New York while Luis Castillo nurses a sprained ankle, but was hitting just .251/.310/.320 for the Nats and still isn't a great bet for fantasy purposes.

According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, the Nationals will receive minor league infielder Greg Veloz in return for Anderson Hernandez.
Veloz isn't really much of a prospect, despite his age. The 21-year-old is batting just .232/.297/.303 on the Single-A level this season with 81 strikeouts, two home runs and 19 RBI in 357 at-bats.

According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, the Mets have acquired Nationals infielder Anderson Hernandez.
Hernandez has been losing playing time to Alberto Gonzalez since the All-Star break. He'll fill in for the injured Luis Castillo in New York.

Anderson Hernandez is now considered a utility player for the Nats.
Hernandez hasn't started at second base since Jim Riggleman took over as interim manager last week. He has worked in the outfield during pregame warmups and may collect a few starts there per week, but most of the playing time at second base will now go to Alberto Gonzalez.

 Alberto Gonzalez-2B - Nationals Jul. 12 - 2:28 pm et

The Nationals are planning to give Alberto Gonzalez more playing time, mostly at second baseman Anderson Hernandez's expense.
Gonzalez is hitting a surprising .327/.381/.430 in 107 at-bats for the Nationals this season, and he's a fine defender at both shortstop and second base. It's doubtful that he'll establish himself as a quality regular, but he's at least as good a bet as Hernandez going forward.

Anderson Hernandez hit the second home run of his career -- a three-run shot -- in a loss to the Yankees on Tuesday night.
If Anderson Hernandez is doing it, you know something is up. His only other previous home run was as a member of the Mets on September 9, 2006 against the Marlins. Tonight's homer actually gave the Nationals a 3-2 lead, but predictably the bullpen blew it.
