| Andrew McCutchen's 2010 Profile | | McCutchen couldn’t match Chris Coghlan hit for hit, but considering that he played a quality center field in 108 starts after being called up, there was a case to be made for him as the NL Rookie of the Year. A potential Gold Glover, he should be the more valuable of the two players going forward. McCutchen surprised by showing so much pop in his age-22 season, even coming through with a three-homer game on Aug. 1. It bodes well for him averaging 20-25 homers per year in his prime, and he’s a definite threat to swipe 40 bases. Perhaps the most encouraging thing to come from his 2009 season was his progress against righties. McCutchen mashed lefties at every level, but he had a .642 OPS against righties in Double-A in 2007 and a .743 mark in Triple-A in 2008. Surprisingly, he came in at .811 in 333 at-bats against righties for the Pirates. McCutchen well may be the Pirates’ long-term No. 3 hitter, though he’ll probably stay in the leadoff spot to begin this season. It makes him a slightly weaker bet, since he’s not going to knock in many runs batting behind the pitcher. Still, if he continues to progress as a basestealer, he might be a $25 player anyway. | | Year | Tm | AB | H | AVG | HR | RBI | RUNS | SB | OBP | SLUG | TB | OPS | | Proj | PIT | 603 | 166 | .275 | 15 | 65 | 96 | 37 | .347 | .431 | 260 | .778 | | 2009 | PIT | 433 | 124 | .286 | 12 | 54 | 74 | 22 | .365 | .471 | 204 | .836 | | 2008 | | 0 | 0 | .000 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | .000 | .000 | 0 | .000 | | 2007 | | 0 | 0 | .000 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | .000 | .000 | 0 | .000 |
