Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Skip Schumaker's new two-year deal is worth a total of $4.7 million.
Schumaker will earn $2 million in 2010 and $2.7 million in 2011. He requested $2.75 million and was offered $1.45 from the Cardinals when arbitration figures were exchanged in mid-January, so it seems like a nice deal for GM John Mozeliak and Co.. The 29-year-old hit .303/.364/.393 last season and will start at second for the Redbirds this year.

The Cardinals and second baseman Skip Schumaker avoided arbitration Monday by agreeing to a two-year contract extension.
The exact financial terms have not yet been disclosed, but Schumaker asked for $2.75 million and was offered $1.45 million from the Cardinals when arbitration figures were exchanged in mid-January. Skip, a 29-year-old converted outfielder, batted .303/.364/.393 with four home runs, 35 RBI and 85 runs scored last season. The new contract covers his first two years of arbitration eligibility. He's under team control through 2012.

Skip Schumaker asked for $2.75 million and was offered $1.45 million from the Cardinals when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was told this afternoon that the "sides are closer than huge arb. gap would suggest." That's good news, because it appears they're pretty far apart. Schumaker, 29, batted .303/.364/.393 with four home runs, 35 RBI and 85 runs scored last season.

The Cardinals are close to signing second baseman Skip Schumaker to a one-year contract, reports Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
"No deal done yet," Schumaker said at the Cardinals' Winter Warm-Up event over the weekend. "But I think we're close." According to Hummel, the Cards' second baseman is expected to make around $2 million in his first chance at arbitration. Schumaker, who turns 30 next month, batted .303/.364/.393 with four home runs, 35 RBI and 85 runs scored last season.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak indicated Tuesday that the club has no interest in moving Skip Schumaker back to the outfield.
Mozeliak said that would fall under plan "quadruple-Z" this offseason, which the Cardinals will, in all likelihood, avoid. Schumaker made great strides throughout the season at second base and wound up a perfectly average defender. He also hit a respectable .303/.364/.393 in 532 at-bats.

Skip Schumaker, a former outfielder who was converted last year to a second baseman, hopes to further improve his infield skills this winter.
Skip made great strides at his new position throughout the year and his batting statistics did not take a tumble. But he still has some things to work on. "More flexibility," he said Saturday. "Quickness. Quickness is now a big part of my game. I never thought about quickness before. It was always about running the ball down, and I could do that if I got a bad jump." The Cards have a lot of question marks heading into 2010, but not at second base.
