Terry Francona told Jacoby Ellsbury that he will be moving to left field, according to Dan Roche of WBZ.
As expected, center field will be ceded to newly-acquired Mike Cameron. Ellsbury fared poorly in defensive metrics available to the public in 2009, numbers that don't agree with Boston's internal evaluations that had him as an average defender at worst. The club, however, feels that moving Ellsbury to left would truly make an impact on the defense.

 Mike Cameron-OF - Red Sox Dec. 14 - 9:00 pm et

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports the Red Sox and Mike Cameron are closing in on a two-year deal worth around $15.5 million.
The Associated Press is reporting that a tentative deal may be in place. Cameron is 36 years of age but remains one of the top defenders in the game and hit a respectable .250/.342/.452 with 24 home runs and 32 doubles in 628 plate appearances this past season for the Brewers. The Sox may ask him to take over in center field and move Jacoby Ellsbury to left.

The Red Sox have considered moving Jacoby Ellsbury to left field, reports the Boston Herald's Michael Silverman.
Ellsbury fared poorly in defensive metrics available to the public in 2009, numbers that don't agree with Boston's internal evaluations that had him as an average defender at worst. However, the club feels that moving Ellsbury to left would truly make an impact on the defense. To do so, an upgrade in center would have to be found. Silverman tosses around Carlos Beltran as one possible upgrade.

Jacoby Ellsbury went 3-for-5 with a stolen base in a win over the Indians on Thursday night.
Business as usual for Ellsbury, who nudged his batting average back over the .300 mark with the three-hit performance while swiping his 68th bag of the season. Perhaps the only uncharacteristic thing about Ellsbury's night was that he got caught stealing once -- that's only happened 11 times in 79 attempts this year.
 David Ortiz-DH - Red Sox Sep. 30 - 4:33 pm et

The Red Sox are resting the majority of their regulars on Wednesday, one night after clinching a spot in the postseason.
David Ortiz is starting, but he doesn't have much in the way of a lineup around him. Kevin Youkilis, Victor Martinez, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jason Bay and Dustin Pedroia are all getting the night off. That's bad news for Time Wakefield and good news for the starting pitcher Toronto is sending to the hill -- some guy named Roy Halladay.

Jacoby Ellsbury finished 3-for-6 with two stolen bases in a win over the Royals on Thursday night.
Ellsbury has now swiped 66 bags this year while being caught only 10 times. He has been very consistent at the plate this year.
