 Jed Lowrie-SS- Red SoxDec. 12 - 12:51 pm et
Jed Lowrie (left wrist) hopes to begin swinging a bat again on Jan. 1.
Lowrie missed most of the season with wrist surgery and complications therein. The 25-year old had a lost season and will compete for the backup job behind Marco Scutaro come February, although it has been reported that Boston would prefer Lowrie to start full-time in Triple-A Pawtucket. The switch-hitter will head to Tampa in mid-January to work with the trainer also employed by Derek Jeter.

 Jed Lowrie-SS - Red Sox Nov. 15 - 10:10 am et

Peter Gammons of ESPN.com reports the Red Sox want Jed Lowrie to play at Triple-A Pawtucket in 2010.
Lowrie missed most of the 2009 season after undergoing wrist surgery in April. Right now, he's technically the top shortstop on the depth chart, but that figures to change. Giving him full-time duty in Pawtucket would help Lowrie recapture his groove in a less demanding environment. Wait to see how the shortstop situation shakes itself out before dropping him on draft boards.

Jed Lowrie had a checkup on his surgically-repaired left wrist Friday and was told he should be at full strength by the start of spring training.
Lowrie made just 12 plate appearances after September 1 due to lingering weakness in his wrist. "The prognosis is good," he wrote Friday in an email to WEEI. "With rest, strength and conditioning it should be 100 percent." The Red Sox won't commit to a role for him until he proves he's fully healthy.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona revealed Tuesday that Jed Lowrie will have a spot on the club's ALDS roster.
Lowrie has been given just 12 at-bats since September 1 and probably won't have much of an impact in the postseason. He hit .147/.211/.265 in 68 at-bats this year. Gil Velazquez will also travel with the club, but he'll only be a factor if there's an injury in the Boston infield.

 Jason Bay-OF - Mets Sep. 26 - 2:51 pm et

Jason Bay is out of Saturday's lineup against the Yankees.
Bay will rest, while Brian Anderson starts in his place, Jed Lowrie gets his first start since Aug.6 and Victor Martinez catches Daisuke Matsuzaka for the first time.

Jed Lowrie has yet to receive an at-bat as a left-handed hitter since coming off the D.L.
Manager Terry Francona sent Mike Lowell to pinch-hit for Lowrie against Royals' right-hander Joakim Soria on Tuesday and clearly isn't yet ready to deploy Lowrie from the left side of the plate. Lowrie is hitting just .158 in 57 at-bats this season and shouldn't be an option in AL-only leagues.
