The Rangers and RHP C.J. Wilson avoided arbitration Monday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.1 million contract.
It's a nice and well-deserved raise from the $1.85 million salary that Wilson earned in 2009. He had a 2.81 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and an 84/32 K/BB ratio in 73 2/3 innings last season and also collected 14 saves during the three trips closer Frank Francisco made to the disabled list.

Frank Francisco has reclaimed closing duties in Texas.
The Rangers opted to ease Francisco back into the responsibility after he spent a couple of weeks battling pneumonia. C.J. Wilson will resume a setup role. "Frankie is a one-inning guy and C.J. is a multiple innings guy," manager Ron Washington said Friday. "[Wilson] just gives us more versatility. He's done an outstanding job. He really has."

Frank Francisco pitched a scoreless eighth for another hold Thursday against the A's.
Francisco again set up in front of C.J. Wilson, who allowed one run in the ninth before picking up his 14th save. Francisco has pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings since coming of off the DL, and he seems ready to reclaim the closer's role if that's the way manager Ron Washington wants to play it.

Frank Francisco pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out two, to earn a hold in his return from the DL.
C.J. Wilson followed with a scoreless ninth to close out the 4-2 game. Francisco could return to the closer's role if he follows up this one with another strong showing.

Rangers activated RHP Frank Francisco from the 15-day disabled list.
Francisco probably won't pick up any saves this week, so it's fine to keep him reserved in fantasy leagues. C.J. Wilson will handle ninth-inning duties until Francisco is deemed ready.

Manager Ron Washington plans to ease him back into the closer's role, a similar tack he took in June. CJ Wilson's run of saves is about to end.
