Pirates signed LHP Jack Taschner to a minor league contract.
Taschner can make $835,000 if he finds his way onto the Pirates' Opening Day roster and has the opportunity to earn up to $465,000 through performance-based incentives. He's a cheap relief option for the budget-conscious Pirates, but we wouldn't expect much from him in 2010. The 31-year-old posted a 1.98 WHIP and 19/20 K/BB ratio in 29 1/3 innings of relief this year for the Phillies.

 Jack Taschner-R - Pirates Dec. 23 - 12:16 pm et

ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports that the Pirates have agreed to a minor league contract with left-handed reliever Jack Taschner.
The deal, once finalized, will come with an invitation to spring training. Taschner, 31, posted a 4.91 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 19/20 K/BB ratio in 29 1/3 innings of relief this year for the Phillies. He was equally bad against right-handed and left-handed hitters in 2009 and will probably be used as a middle reliever in Pittsburgh, if he makes the club.

Jack Taschner has a mid-back strain and is no longer with the Phillies.
Taschner was sent to the club's spring training complex in Clearwater, Florida for rehabilitation. He was used only sparingly while with the Phils and won't be included on the playoff roster.

Phillies purchased the contract of LHP Jack Taschner from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Keep in mind that corresponding moves are no longer necessary in most cases because teams are now allowed to carry 40 players. Taschner, 31, was designated for assignment in July after posting a 5.20 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 17/20 K/BB ratio in 27 2/3 innings with the Phillies. He went 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 20 games at the Triple-A level and will be used as a situational left-hander.

Phillies sent LHP Jack Taschner outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Taschner will stick around after failing to garner much interest on the trade market. He was designated for assignment over the weekend due in large part to his 5.20 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 17/20 K/BB ratio in 27 2/3 innings.

Phillies designated LHP Jack Taschner for assignment.
Acquired from the Giants in late March for catcher Ronny Paulino, Taschner posted a 5.20 ERA, a 1.92 WHIP and a 17/20 K/BB ratio in 27 2/3 innings for the Phillies. He surrendered six runs in his last three outings. The Phils now have 10 days to trade or release him.
