| Dan Uggla's 2009 Profile | | Aside from looking like a nervous little leaguer during the All-Star game, Uggla had a career year, setting new highs in homers, RBI, walks, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Uggla's increased power has come with increased strikeouts, as he's gone from whiffing in 18 percent of his plate appearances as a rookie to 23 percent in 2007 and 28 percent last season. He's been able to maintain a respectable .262 career batting average despite the lack of contact, but if that pattern continues any further Uggla will be in danger of seeing his production fall off a cliff. Uggla got a late start, so he's already 29 years old despite entering just his fourth season, and he's seemingly a prime candidate for rapid decline. His batting average will likely be the first skill to go, so if you draft Uggla for his 25-30 homers this year, don't count on him hitting higher than .250.Updated Jul. 8: Filling in for Hanley Ramirez in the third spot in the order, Dan Uggla hit a three-run homer and walked twice on Wednesday. We suggested that manager Fredi Gonzalez try batting Uggla second again, but he's only hit the second baseman high in the order when left with no other choice. For what little it's worth, Uggla has a 1500 OPS in one game batting second, a 962 OPS in six games batting third, a 791 OPS in 45 games batting fifth and a 673 OPS in 31 games batting sixth. For his career, he's hit .266/.335/.495 with 224 runs in 306 games as a No. 2 hitter. | | Year | Tm | AB | H | AVG | HR | RBI | RUNS | SB | OBP | SLUG | TB | OPS | | Proj | FLA | 560 | 139 | .248 | 29 | 98 | 86 | 4 | .335 | .477 | 267 | .812 | | 2008 | FLA | 531 | 138 | .260 | 32 | 92 | 97 | 5 | .360 | .514 | 273 | .874 | | 2007 | FLA | 632 | 155 | .245 | 31 | 88 | 113 | 2 | .326 | .479 | 303 | .805 | | 2006 | FLA | 611 | 172 | .282 | 27 | 90 | 105 | 6 | .339 | .480 | 293 | .818 |
