Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that trade talks for Dan Uggla got "pretty hot and heavy" at the GM meetings, with the Giants and Rangers being mentioned as potential landing spots.
We've heard Uggla linked to the Giants for a while now, but the Rangers are a new one. According to the report, if the Marlins don't get what they want in exchange for the 29-year-old slugger, they are open to dealing one of their other arbitration-eligible players -- a group that includes Jorge Cantu, Cody Ross, Alfredo Amezaga and Ricky Nolasco. Still, Uggla is the most likely among them to be dealt.

 Dan Uggla-2B - Marlins Nov. 13 - 2:43 pm et

According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, Dan Uggla does not want to move from second base, even in the event of a trade.
"There should be no reason to consider a position change at this time," said Uggla's agent, Jeff Borris. The Braves, Orioles and Giants are thought to have some interest in acquiring the 29-year-old slugger, but it sounds like he's only willing to play the position he's familiar with. It'll be interesting to hear if that factors into potential trade negotiations this winter.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that the idea of Dan Uggla in left field shouldn't be dismissed.
O'Brien goes on to call it a "legit possibility," despite Uggla not appearing in the outfield since the 2004 season when he was playing for Double-A El Paso in the Diamondbacks organization. Uggla could be one possibility for the Braves as they look to find a corner outfield bat. The 29-year-old has eclipsed 30 homers in each of the past three seasons.

FOXSports.com reports that the Orioles and Giants have shown the most interest in Dan Uggla.
The Red Sox have even considered Uggla as a potential alternative to Jason Bay in left field, although he hasn't played in the outfield since the 2004 season in Double-A. Uggla, 30, figures to play third base should he be acquired by the Orioles or Giants, according to the report, but they would be taking quite a leap of faith considering his defense. He should make roughly $8 million in arbitration this winter.

According to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post, "Indications are 2B Dan Uggla will get traded by the winter meetings next month."
The Marlins are plenty happy with Uggla's production -- he's hit 30-plus homers in each of the last three seasons -- but they don't have the funds to sign him to a long-term extension and really can't afford the salary he's granted through arbitration. He was awarded $5.35 million in 2009.

 Dan Uggla-2B - Marlins Sep. 22 - 10:55 pm et

Dan Uggla homered in a win over the Phillies on Tuesday night.
With the second-inning solo home run, Uggla became the first Marlin to have three straight 30-homer seasons. That doesn't mean he won't be on the trading block this winter, though.
