Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies and outfielder Ryan Spilborghs have agreed to a two-year, $3.25 million deal.
The new contract will cover Spilborghs' next two arbitration-eligible seasons, paying him $1.3 million this season and $1.95 million in 2011. He can also earn additional cash bonuses through incentives based on plate appearances. The 30-year-old hit .241/.310/.395 with eight home runs and 48 RBI in 352 at-bats last season as a utility outfielder.

The Cubs have interest in free agent right-hander Jose Contreras, according to ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine.
Chicago has spoken to Contreras' agent, Jaime Torres. If signed, he would slot in the back of the rotation or as a long man out of the bullpen. Levine's report also said Cubs general manager Jim Hendry's top two free agent outfield targets are Marlon Byrd and Scott Podsednik, in that order. The Cubs have also spoken to the Rockies about a possible swap for Ryan Spilborghs, who would slot in as a versatile fourth outfielder, a role previously held by Reed Johnson.

The Rockies plan to hang on to outfielder Ryan Spilborghs unless they receive a substantial offer, FOXSports.com reports.
Spilborghs is a popular trade target, garnering interest from the Braves and White Sox, among others, however the Rockies don't expect to find an offer to their liking. Spilborghs, 30, is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after hitting .241/.310/.395 with eight home runs and 48 RBI in 352 at-bats. Unless Brad Hawpe is traded this winter, Spilborghs is destined to be an extra outfielder yet again, so it makes some sense for the Rockies to at least explore a trade.

The Rockies are trotting out the same lineup for Game 2 that they had in Game 2, save for Ryan Spilborghs replacing Brad Hawpe.
Spilborghs is 2-for-3 with two doubles lifetime against Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels, accounting for the lineup change. On the Phillies end, there were no lineup changes.

Ryan Spilborghs delivered a walk-off grand slam to lift the Rockies over the Giants 6-2 on Monday night.
What a game. After Todd Helton walked in a run to tie the game at one in the fifth, the two teams went scoreless for eight innings before the Giants posted three runs in the top of the 14th, only to have the Rockies battle back with a bases-loaded walk followed by the decisive grand slam from Spilborghs, who was 2-for-7 in the game. The home run was his seventh of the year.

Carlos Gonzalez (hand) was able to play catch Monday and believes he'll be ready to return to the lineup this week.
Cargo sliced his hand at home Saturday with a steak knife. He'll attempt to hit off a tee Tuesday and should have his stitches removed by Wednesday.
