 Andrew Bailey-R- AthleticsNov. 16 - 2:33 pm et
Andrew Bailey won the American League Rookie of the Year award.
Normally, we would be opposed to a reliever winning this type of award. But this is not a typical situation. The honor is a fitting end to Bailey's unlikely journey from obscurity to one of the AL's best closers. He was 6-3 while converting 26-of-30 saves and posting a 1.84 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP and 91/25 K/BB ratio in 83 1/3 innings. Bailey edged a group that included Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus and Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello.

 Elvis Andrus-SS - Rangers Sep. 24 - 6:57 pm et

Elvis Andrus went 0-for-4 and committed his 22nd error of the season in Thursday's loss.
Andrus hasn't had the kind of finish he needed to lock up Rookie of the Year honors. While his average has held steady, it's been 16 days since his last extra-base hit and his OPS is very close to falling below 700 for the first time since mid-August. He's at .267/.327/.374 right now.
 Michael Young-3B - Rangers Sep. 1 - 9:57 pm et

Michael Young suffered a strained hamstring during Tuesday night's game.
Young will have an MRI Wednesday morning to help the Rangers determine the severity of the strain. Elvis Andrus replaced him in the batting order.

 Elvis Andrus-SS - Rangers Jul. 28 - 11:04 pm et

Elvis Andrus was 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in a win over the Tigers on Tuesday night.
Andrus has started to struggle a bit offensively since an excellent May, but he filled up the boxscore against the Tigers on Tuesday, registering his 20th stolen base and his third multi-hit game in his last five. While the rookie has tapered off a bit with his bat, we can't say enough about his defense. He's outstanding.
 Omar Vizquel-SS - Rangers Jul. 21 - 8:27 pm et

Omar Vizquel was scratched from the Rangers' starting lineup about 20 minutes before game time due to flu-like symptoms.
Elvis Andrus replaced him at the No. 9 spot in the lineup and at shortstop. Vizquel is hitting .288/.352/.375 this season as a utility infielder.

 Elvis Andrus-SS - Rangers Jul. 1 - 1:54 am et

Elvis Andrus was 2-for-3 with four stolen bases in a win over the Angels on Tuesday night.
The four steals obviously mark a career-high for the 21-year-old rookie. While Dexter Fowler swiped five earlier this season, the last American League rookie to steal at least four bases in one game was Luis Matos of the Orioles in 2000.
