The Rangers and RHP Scott Feldman avoided arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $2,425,000 contract.
It's just south of the midpoint submitted by the two sides last week. Feldman, who turns 27 next month, was a pleasant surprise with the Rangers last season, finishing 17-8 with a 4.08 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. While he did pretty well for himself as a first year arbitration-eligible player, the wins are misleading and fantasy owners would be silly to expect a repeat.

Scott Feldman requested $2.9 million and was offered $2.05 million from the Rangers when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
Feldman had an impressive 2009 campaign, posting a 17-8 record, 4.08 ERA, and 1.28 WHIP in 189 2/3 innings. He made the league minimum and is rightfully in line for a nice raise in his first year of arbitration.

Scott Feldman took a loss versus the Mariners on Sunday after yielding four runs in six innings.
He struck out four, walked one, and gave up just six hits. Feldman finishes off a surprisingly strong season with a 17-8 record, 4.08 ERA, and 1.28 WHIP in 189 2/3 innings. His 113/65 K/BB isn't strong and he'll have a hard time repeating such an excellent season as a result. The Rangers should continue to focus on upgrading their pitching this off-season as a result.

Scott Feldman was tagged for four runs over 3 2/3 innings in a 5-2 loss to the Angels on Tuesday night.
Feldman has failed to make it out of the fourth inning in each of his last two starts. He has an 8.55 ERA over his last four starts, raising his ERA to 4.10 on the year, so it appears this feel-good story is over. Feldman may have 17 wins, but if he's counted on to be an ace in Texas next season, something is very wrong.

Scott Feldman was lit up for seven runs in 3 1/3 innings by the A's in a loss Thursday.
With the possibility of a 20-win season hanging in the balance, Feldman could have started next Tuesday and Sunday had he won today. Since he took the loss and remained at 17 victories, the Rangers figure to limit him to one start next week, if they don't just shut him down entirely. He's up to 180 innings despite opening the season in the pen.

Scott Feldman limited the Angels to two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings Saturday as the Rangers grabbed a 3-2 victory.
Texas has fallen out of contention, but Feldman showed no let-down Saturday evening against a tough Rangers lineup. He fanned four batters and walked just one, improving to 17-5 on the season.
