Pirates signed LHP Brian Burres to a minor league contract.
Burres also gets an invitation to spring training. The 28-year-old spent most of last season with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate, going 6-7 with a 4.76 ERA. Burres had a 14.21 ERA in two April starts with Toronto and was unable to work his way back to the big league club. He provides pitching depth for Pittsburgh.

Blue Jays optioned LHP Brian Burres to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Burres had a 14.21 ERA in two starts since taking over for Ricky Romero in the starting rotation last week. The team isn't expected to announce his replacement on the roster until Friday. Casey Janssen was recently sent to Dunedin on a rehab assignemtn, but he likely isn't ready to make a return to the rotation just yet. They may give Fabio Castro a shot.

Brian Burres was pulled after allowing six runs -- four earned -- in two innings Thursday against the Royals.
Burres has a 14.21 ERA in two starts since replacing Ricky Romero in Toronto's rotation. It's time for the team to try someone else, perhaps Fabio Castro.

Brian Burres was hammered for six runs over 4 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the White Sox.
It was the first start for Burres in a Blue Jays uniform, and he didn't exactly impress. He walked four batters, struck out just two, and surrendered seven hits. You'd think the Blue Jays would have a better starting option.

Blue Jays recalled LHP Brian Burres from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Burres will start Saturday in place of Ricky Romero, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle in his right side. Just because the Blue Jays don't have better options doesn't mean you shouldn't.

Blue Jays reassigned RHP Matt Clement, LHP Brian Burres, first baseman Randy Ruiz, catcher Curtis Thigpen and infielder Angel Sanchez to minor league camp.
Clement coughed up nine runs in his outing Sunday, knocking him out of the mix for a rotation spot. He hasn't pitched in a big league game since mid-2006, so whether he sticks with the Blue Jays or lands elsewhere Clement will likely have to prove himself at Triple-A.
