The Cubs and shortstop Ryan Theriot appear headed for an arbitration hearing, reports Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.
"I haven't spoken to his people for a while," said general manager Jim Hendry. "There's always a chance (for a settlement) until it's final. But I can't say I'm optimistic, either. We're already settled with the other seven (arbitration-eligible players). So if the situation ends up going to a hearing, then that's OK, too." Theriot asked for $3.4 million and was offered $2.6 million from when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. The Cubs haven't went to a hearing with one of their players since Mark Grace in 1993. |
