Ryan Roberts went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in a 7-5 win over Houston today.
He doubled once and added three singles in the contest. Roberts is now batting .291, and combined with his solid walk rate and gap power he's been an asset since taking over for Felipe Lopez. The Diamondbacks have no other internal options for second base next season, and if he continues playing reasonably well he'll likely enter 2010 as the starter.

Diamondbacks optioned outfielder Chris Young to Triple-A Reno.
Young's numbers have fallen flat since he signed a five-year, $28 million deal before the '08 season. The 25-year-old had 32 dingers and 68 RBI in 2007, 22 homers and 85 RBI in 2008 and is batting just .194 with seven home runs and 28 RBI in 103 games this season. Trent Oeltjen may enjoy an extended stay in the bigs to help with the lack of depth in the outfield. Ryan Roberts might also see some action at a corner outfield spot.

Ryan Roberts rejoined the D'Backs Saturday after spending the last few days with his wife, who gave birth to the couple's first child Friday.
Roberts had a girl and named her Hudsyn. He arrived in time for batting practice Saturday, but manager A.J. Hinch opted to leave him out of the starting lineup. He grounded out as a pinch-hitter in the seventh.

Ryan Roberts left the Diamondbacks Thursday evening to be with his wife, who went into labor back in Phoenix.
The D'Backs are currently on a road trip in Pittsburgh, and will head to Washington D.C. on Friday. He's expected to meet up with them there.

Ryan Roberts homered and had two runs scored in a win over the Pirates on Wednesday night.
Roberts now has five homers over his last 11 games -- the dirty little secret being that four of them are against the Pirates. He has just one homer in 141 at-bats against everyone else. Enough said.

Ryan Roberts finished 4-for-5 with a pair of homers in a win over the Pirates on Tuesday night.
Roberts has seven hits in his last 10 at-bats to raise his batting average to .285 on the year. He's been out there pretty much everyday since Felipe Lopez was traded to the Brewers, but nothing in his history suggests he will be even a decent fantasy option going forward.
