 Takashi Saito-R- BravesDec. 3 - 3:25 pm et
Braves signed RHP Takashi Saito to a one-year, $3.2 million contract.
Saito could make an additional $2.3 million in incentives, the majority of them based on games finished. With Billy Wagner and Saito in tow, the Braves have filled the void of Mike Gonzalez and Rafael Soriano in a little under 36 hours. Better yet for Atlanta, Saito did not qualify as a Type A or Type B free agent, meaning the Braves will not have to surrender an additional draft pick. Saito, who turns 40 in February, posted a 2.43 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP and a 52/25 K/BB ratio in 55 2/3 innings with the Red Sox in 2009. He's no longer the dominant pitcher he was upon his arrival in 2005 and 2006, seeing an increase in his walk rate over the past two seasons, but he is still one of the more reliable set-up men in the game.

With Billy Wagner and Saito, the Braves will have rebuilt their bullpen in the course of only two days. Takashi Saito has cleared waivers and elected for free agency.
Saito was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday. The move actually makes him an unrestricted free agent, so he will be eligible to sign with all 30 MLB teams, including the Red Sox. Due to a clause in Saito's contract, if the Red Sox simply released him without outrighting him, they would have been ineligible to re-sign him until May 15. The 39-year-old right-hander posted a 2.43 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP and a 52/25 K/BB ratio in 55 2/3 innings in 2009.

According to WEEI.com, right-handed reliever Takashi Saito is open to re-signing with the Red Sox this offeason.
Saito cleared outright waivers last week and elected to become a free agent, which freed the Red Sox from having to decline his 2010 option. The setup man posted a 2.43 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP and a 52/25 K/BB ratio in 55 2/3 innings during the regular season, but he does turn 40 this winter.

Red Sox outrighted RHP Takashi Saito.
In other words, he's been removed from the 40-man roster. The Red Sox are expected to let Saito walk this winter in lieu of picking up his 2010 club option. He posted a solid 2.43 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 55 2/3 innings this season, but will be 40 years old at the start of next season.
 Jonathan Papelbon-R - Red Sox Aug. 12 - 5:05 pm et

Jonathan Papelbon is likely unavailable on Wednesday after pitching 2 1/3 innings the past two days.
No word on who would close in Papelbon's absence, but a close game could mean a save opportunity for Daniel Bard or Takashi Saito on Wednesday.
