Brewers acquired outfielder Carlos Gomez from the Twins for J.J. Hardy.
While many expected the Brewers to add a pitcher in exchange for Hardy, Gomez should fill the gap in center field with Mike Cameron about to hit free free-agency. Gomez has a .246/.292/.346 line in the majors and is a little too reckless on the basepaths at times, but nobody can question his world-class defense in center field. It seems like he has been around forever, but it's worth noting that Gomez is only 23 years old and will be under team control until 2013. With the money saved on the acquisition of Gomez, look for the Brewers to add a starting pitcher in free agency. |
