 Akinori Iwamura-2B- PiratesNov. 3 - 7:57 pm et
Pirates acquired second baseman Akinori Iwamura from the Rays for RHP Jesse Chavez.
There was a report that a second player would go from Tampa Bay to Pittsburgh, but it turned out to a straight-up deal. The Pirates will pick up Iwamura's $4.85 million option for 2010 and get themselves a nice one-year stopgap at second base, albeit at a pretty significant cost. He'll likely hit second in their lineup behind Andrew McCutchen. The Rays, meanwhile, can go with Ben Zobrist as a full-time second baseman now.

 Ben Zobrist-2B - Rays Sep. 30 - 9:43 pm et

Ben Zobrist was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in a win over the Orioles on Wednesday night.
Zobrist has driven in runs in six consecutive games. Though his .290/.399/.531 line with 26 homers and 88 RBI certainly impresses, Zobrist hasn't been anywhere near the force he was in the first half. He has just nine homers and 36 RBI since the All-Star break.
 Ben Zobrist-2B - Rays Sep. 27 - 6:41 pm et

Ben Zobrist delivered two-run singles in the eighth and ninth innings as the Rays came back to beat the Rangers 7-6 on Sunday.
All seven runs came in those last two innings. Zobrist picked great times for his singles, as both came with Carl Crawfords on second and Jason Bartlett on third. That gave Zobrist his first multi-RBI game since Aug. 24.
 B.J. Upton-OF - Rays Sep. 19 - 4:46 pm et

B.J. Upton is not in Saturday's lineup against the Blue Jays.
Joe Maddon opted for a different look against the southpaw Ricky Romero, with Ben Zobrist getting the start in center field. It's hard to blame him, as the banged-up Upton hasn't managed a hit in his last four games.

 B.J. Upton-OF - Rays Sep. 12 - 4:09 pm et

According to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times, B.J. Upton (ankle) feels a lot better and will "probably" play on Sunday.
Upton left last Thursday's game after colliding with Carl Crawford and his left ankle has been hobbling him ever since. Fernando Perez is taking his place in center field for Saturday's game, with Ben Zobrist playing right.

 Ben Zobrist-2B - Rays Sep. 8 - 5:19 pm et

Ben Zobrist is starting in center field for Tuesday's matchup against the Yankees.
B.J. Upton feels well enough to play, but manager Joe Maddon grants Zobrist his fifth start of the year in center field while 35-year-old Chris Richard will make his first start since 2003 as a member of the Rockies.
