Brewers manager Ken Macha would only identify two "locks" for his 2010 starting rotation in a chat with reporters Tuesday.
No surprise, Yovani Gallardo was one. In somewhat of a surprise, Manny Parra is the other. Parra went 11-11 with an ugly 6.39 ERA in 2009, causing some to project him as a reliever. It seems as if the Brewers are still high on the left-hander. Macha refused to guarantee Jeff Suppan and Dave Bush spots in the rotation, and there's talk that Bush might actually be non-tendered Saturday. The Brewers are reportedly closing in on a three-year deal with Randy Wolf that would give them three guaranteed starters.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Brewers have agreed to terms with Rick Peterson to become the team's next pitching coach.
The Brewers posted a dreadful 5.37 team ERA in 2009, most of which can be blamed on their failure to sign any promising starting arms in the 2008 offseason. Peterson served as the Mets' pitching coach from 2003-2008, and was with Oakland before that. Thus, he has ties in Milwaukee to both manager Ken Macha and bench coach Willie Randolph.

Rick Peterson remains the leading candidate to be the Brewers' next pitching coach, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt.
Haudricourt writes that the team has also interviewed Bryan Price and Chuck Hernandez for the opening. Manager Ken Macha has ties to all three candidates, but Peterson was the pitching coach for the A's from 1998-2003, a time when Macha coached and managed in Oakland.

Yovani Gallardo tossed five scoreless innings and picked up a win over the Astros on Sunday in his final start of the 2009 season.
The Brewers are shutting their young ace down to try and limit his innings while out of the playoff picture. Gallardo finishes the year 13-12 with a 3.73 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 204 strikeouts over 30 starts. The right-hander uncharacteristically walked 94 batters on the season, and if he can get that number back in line with his previous performance he's set to take a big jump next season.

Yovani Gallardo believes he'll be limited to a 75-80 pitch count in his final appearance of the season Sunday.
Gallardo is facing the Astros in his 2009 finale. He enters the game with a 12-12 record, 3.84 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 197/91 K/BB over 29 starts. "The way I look at it," he said, "it's just another start, even though I know it will be the last one for the year. I'm just going to go out there, enjoy it."
