Manager Dave Trembley said Nolan Reimold will be his starting left fielder this season.
"Our outfield is Reimold, Jones and Markakis and Pie gives us some flexibility being able to play center and left," said Trembley. "Reimold could DH some vs. left-handed pitching. I don't see it as a competitive thing coming into spring training. Both guys (Reimold and Pie) are on the club, my job is to get them at bats and keep them fresh." There was some thought that Reimold should split his time between designated hitter, first base and left field, providing more playing time for Felix Pie, but Trembley was impressed enough with the 26-year-old to hand him everyday duties heading into the new season. Reimold batted .279/.365/.466 with 15 homers, 45 RBI and eight stolen bases in 358 at-bats as a rookie last season. |
