 Tony Abreu-2B- DiamondbacksOct. 10 - 8:48 am et
The Tony Abreu transaction landing him with the Diamondbacks is complete.
Abreu was the player to be named later in the Jon Garland swap. The trade hit a snag when it was revealed the second-baseman had a grievance against the Dodgers for more service time, which could have impacted his arbitration salaries. The 25-year old receives 30 more days service time, which gives him an outside shot as qualifying for Super-Two arbitration status in 2010.

 Tony Abreu-2B - Diamondbacks Oct. 9 - 3:59 pm et

Diamondbacks acquired second baseman Tony Abreu from the Dodgers to complete the Jon Garland trade.
No word on if there was a resolution to the dispute between the two clubs about Abreu's service time, which allows him to file for arbitration a year early, in 2011, instead of 2012. The Diamondbacks were unaware of this at the time of the deal. Either way, Abreu should compete with Ryan Roberts, Rusty Ryal and Augie Ojeda to be the club's starting second baseman in 2010. Abreu hit .353/.385/.615 with 11 homers and 48 RBI in 218 at-bats for Triple-A Albuquerque this season.

The Jon Garland trade intended to send Tony Abreu to Arizona has hit a snag.
The Dodgers and Tony Abreu were in the midst of a grievance stemming from 2007. The settlement awards Abreu enough service days to likely file for arbitration in 2011, not 2012 -- depriving the Diamondbacks of an additional year of league-minimum salary. The Diamondbacks contend they had no way of knowing about the grievance and believe the Dodgers did not negotiate in good faith. It is unclear what will happen next: the Diamondbacks could request another player or cash to cover the possible arbitration filing. Whatever happens, the Dodgers and Diamondbacks likely won't hook up for a trade again any time soon.

Abreu, 25, has hit an impressive .351/.382/.609 with 10 home runs for Triple-A Albuquerque this season. With a strong showing at spring training next year, he could find himself in a platoon at second base with Ryan Roberts. Abreu first has to clear waivers.
