| Andrew Miller's 2009 Profile | | If anything, Miller regressed during his second full season out of North Carolina. Penciled into the Florida rotation after coming over in the Miguel Cabrera deal, he started his Marlins career by going 1-2 with a 9.12 ERA in April. He did bounce back to post ERAs of 2.43 in May and 4.22 in June, but he resumed struggling in July and went on the DL with knee tendonitis. He was sent to the pen after retuning in September and gave up seven runs in 6 2/3 innings. The Marlins moved quickly to trade Scott Olsen in the offseason, saying that it was because they wanted to open up a spot for Miller in the rotation. However, they began eying some lower-priced free agents in December and may yet bring in some competition for Miller. With a mid-90s fastball that generates strikeouts and grounders and two potential plus pitches in his curve and changeup, Miller has ace ability. However, he remains awfully wild, and some additional Triple-A time probably wouldn’t hurt him at all. He’ll be worth taking a flier on at $1-$2, but this isn’t likely to be the year that he puts it all together.Updated Jul. 10: Andrew Miller lasted just 2 2/3 innings and gave up six runs -- two earned -- against the Diamondbacks on Thursday. While just two runs were earned because of Emilio Bonifacio's 14th error, Miller wasn't any good at all. He allowed five hits, walked three (one intentional) and threw a wild pitch.
