Diamondbacks signed 2B Kelly Johnson to a one-year, $2.35 million contract.
The club will also retain his rights as an arbitration-eligible player for 2011. The Diamondbacks had a host of internal options at second base, but they'll bank on a rebound season from the 27-year-old. Johnson has fallen into some bad habits at the plate, hitting just .224/.303/.389 in '09, but he is just two seasons removed from 16 homers and an .831 OPS. It's a risk worth taking, even if he's a flop. |
